Tagasa,
National Fellow for Drama, delivers "Living Voice"
lecture
QUEZON CITY - Gina Marissa Tagasa, selected the UP Creative
Writing Center (CWC) National Fellow for Drama and Scriptwriting
for 2000-1, delivered her fellowship lecture last July 31
at the Francisco Arcellana Library at the Bulwagang Rizal,
Diliman.
Tagasa started her writing career for DZRH
and DZXL in 1978. Her first stint as a TV scriptwriter was
in the highly regarded Lovingly Yours, Helen (1982-1994).
Her talent was further honed in various soap operas from 1982
to 1999.
Recognition came when GMA-7 made her headwriter for Modern
Romance sa Telebisyon (1990-91). She is currently the headwriter
of ABS-CBN 2, a post she's held since 1999.
She is also a screenwriter in her own right. Among her film
credits are Natutulog Pa Ang Diyos (Seiko) - Best Screenplay
Adaptation, Star Awards; Kung Tapos Na Ang Kailanman (Seiko)
- nominee, Best Screenplay, Star Awards; and Kislap sa Dilim
(Bonanza) - nominee, Best Screenplay Adaptation, Star Awards.
Some of the awards and citations she has received in her noteworthy
career are: Ten Outstanding Women of Quezon City (TV), "Gender-Sensitive
Media Person," 1995; Ten Outstanding TV Programs for
Loving Yours, Helen (Gawad CCP para sa Telebisyon);
Best Drama Anthology for Coney Reyes on Camera and
Best Stories for four GMA productions (Catholic Mass Media
Awards).
She has two published books: Mga Anino sa Kahon (a
compilation of seven best teleplays) and Sirkulo (a
one-act play).
