Obituary for Sue Emma:
Sue Emma (Dodd) Kennedy, 87, formerly of Dixon, passed away Saturday evening, July 15 [2000], in Missoula.
She was born April 24, 1913, in Des Arc, Arkansas, to John and Minnie Dodd, the daughter of a Mississippi River boat pilot. Raised and educated in Arkansas, she moved west to Montana in the 1930's and met her husband Charlie Kennedy while he was trying to mend an injured foot. They were married on November 10, 1936, in Newport, Ark.
In 1939 they moved to Dixon [ Montana ?], where Charlie was employed as the janitor for the Dixon School and Sue was employed as a mail carrier for 30 years until her retirement.
Sue was active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving as a past matron and as secretary for six years. She was active in the Dixon Senior Citizens and was crowned the Queen of Melon Days. She enjoyed gardening and her home as well as her neighbors and friends. Sue and Charlie used to do many things together, but especially enjoyed camping in their camper.
Charlie passed away in 1992 and Sue soon moved to Missoula Manor where she could be closer to her nephew Floyd Hejtmanck and his family.
She is survived by her sister Alma Bartlett of Missoula, numerous nieces and nephews in Montana and Arkansas; and her many friends from Dixon and Missoula.
Graveside funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday,July 19 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Jim Hurd will officiate.
