Notes

Winifred WILSON

Winifred or "Wyney" Wilson, born about 1787, was married around 1806 to Asa Biggs (1788-1861), according to page 84 of the book "Biggs...History and Lineage in America", by Alta Louise Biggs Martin, 1993.  Asa and Winifred had a son named Wilson Biggs and a grandson named Seth W. Biggs.

Some web sites show Winifred's husband as Amariah Biggs.  The ultimate source for this assumption is the will of her father, Seth Wilson, Sr.  It was probated March Term 1826, according to the book "Beaufort County, North Carolina, Will Abstracts 1720-1868".  This will refers to Seth's daughter "Winey Biggs" and also mentions Amariah Biggs, but it does not say they were married to each other.  Apparently someone made this assumption, had it
printed in a county history, and it spread to other researchers.

Winifred's husband Asa Biggs was some kind of cousin of Amariah, who was presumably the Amariah Biggs (1769-1827), Baptist preacher of Tyrrell and Washington Cos NC.  Washington County borders Beaufort.

According to Tranter's Creek Church records in Beaufort County, "Wyney" and Asa Biggs received a letter of dismission in 1805 and moved to Stewart and Haywood Cos TN and later to Shelby Co, Texas.  Seth's 1826 will bequeathed land on the Missouri River to Winifred.  In 1826 she and Asa were living in West Tennessee, closer to that land than Seth's other children.
