CHAPTER TWO: Mysterious Concert
"Ii ne!" the blonde cried. "Did you see the look on sensei's face?!" She giggled loudly. "It was so funny! I never thought he could look so surprised!"

"You are a shocking girl," her brown-haired friend responded. "I was surprised and very happy too!"

"Wai! I can hardly wait to show Mamo-chan!"

Pulling her nose from her book, the third girl in the group commented, "Just don't hit Mamoru-san in the head with the paper. He would like to see your test scores with you showing it to him with it in your hands, not by having it coming straight for him."

"Ami-chan…" the blonde groaned, sweat-dropping.

The tallest girl of the three shook her head. "Ami-chan does have a point, Usagi… oi! Minako-chan!" she waved her arms at the blonde head bobbing up and down a few meters before them.

"Huh?" she turned. "Mako-chan!" she cried, "Ami-chan! Usagi-chan!" She bolted to them and quickly began walking with them. "Wow! Have you heard the radio? They say a new music group is coming this weekend to premiere at the last carnival of the year! No one really knows who the group is, but doesn't it sound fun?"

Makoto shrugged, "Why not? It might be fun and hopefully they're actually good!"

Usagi thought a few moments. "When they going to be performing?"

"Tonight! Will you come?!" Minako whipped out some slips of paper from her pockets, revealing five tickets.

Pouting, Usagi commented, "Minako… you know Chibi-Usa is here! How am I suppose to tell her she can't come too?"

"Oh… uh-oh…" Minako scrunched up her face and began to think.

"Usagi-chan," Ami said as she once again re-immerged from her book, "why not have Mamoru-san come too? He can take Chibi-Usa about the carnival and they can meet us after the performance."

"Wai!" Usagi hugged her friend quickly before dashing off, "Great idea, Ami-chan! I'll go call him and get ready! Ja ne!"

"Matte! Usagi-chan! We'll meet at your house by 7:30!" Minako shouted at the sprinting blonde. An affirmative shout came floating back. "Eh… you think she really got that?"

"Hope so," Makoto replied with a laugh. "Meet at Usagi's by 7:30? Who will tell Rei?" Minako volunteered happily. "Okay. See you tonight! Ja ne." She headed off in her own direction.

"The waves are merciless on the defenseless sands."

"The wind is pushing the water too hard. A storm will arise because of this force."

"Sou da na…"

The two figures leaned against the hood of the sports car while watching the ocean where gentle waves lapping at the beach changed every-so-often to monstrous white creatures that bit away the sand and pebbles.  A younger girl with short, black hair backed away from the huge waves that came to attack. She soon just sat to watch with silent, contemplating purple eyes.

"Is she growing again?"

For a long time the taller figure did not answer. "… … … Hai… … …"

Closing her eyes, aquamarine hair fell over the bowed head of the other. "Few months peace is all we can get. Isn't it?" The taller woman brought her close to her,

"Don't give up hope, yet, Michiru. I felt something that seems like Setsuna-san's doing…" Michiru stayed silent, watching the ocean through the arms of her partner.

"I still don't see why you'd even be interested in a group you don't know," Chibi-Usa said as the group of seven walked through the entrance gates.

"You're just jealous," Usagi countered.

Makoto rubbed her forehead with a sigh, "Please don't start. We came to have a good time, didn't we? Chibi-Usa-chan, Mamoru-san is going to take you around the park. Have fun! We're going to go see the concert and we'll be out be out to meet you again by nine!"

"Okay, Mako-chan!" Chibi-Usa smiled and then gripped onto Mamoru's arms. "Let's go, Mamo-chan!" Usagi made a face at the little pink-haired girl and stuck her tongue out. The other pulled at her eyelid in response. Splitting his girlfriend and Chibi-Usa from another argument, Mamoru pulled at Chibi-Usa's hand.

"Let's get going. What would you like to see first?" They walked off, waving to the five girls behind.

"Come on, let's get our seats!" Minako took the lead, pulling at Ami and Usagi, not able to grab onto everyone.

The others jogged after her as they entered the stadium and handed their tickets over. "Whoa, you got great seats, Minako!" Makoto exclaimed when they found themselves up within the first ten rows. "How did that happen?"

"Luck!" the blonde smirked in response and didn't elaborate.

Rei rolled her eyes and settled into the chair. "But who are these people? What do we know if they're any good or now?"

"Oh just have some fun, Rei," Usagi told her friend. "We get to see who this mystery band is! Isn't that at least some fun for you?" The dark-haired priestess glared. "Yare, yare…" the blonde sweat-dropped, "you're a stick in the mud…"

"What did you just call me?" Rei bellowed.

Ami, Makoto, and Minako turned away, pretending they didn't know the two arguing friends beside them. "They seem to get this way often," Ami remarked quietly.

"I know," Minako whispered back. "They `play' like this a lot. Rei-chan says that they `both have frustrations and agree that arguing like this will relieve that'. Does that make any sense?" The other two shook their head. "Wai!" the blonde clapped, "for once you agree."
Makoto chuckled at that comment and turned her attention to the stage where shadowed people were moving about the set equipment. "They look about ready to start. That's good."

They waited some minutes more before laser lights started up, dashing through the crowd like bright fireflies. The beams of light continued their wild dance while three spotlights paused at the edge of the stage, keeping the band still in the shadows. "Good evening everyone!" a female voice shouted out. Shouts from the crowd replied back enthusiastically.  "It's time to get this started and introduce ourselves, ne?"

The beams slowed their movements a bit as up-beat music started up. There was some movement on stage and soon the female voice could be heard singing:
"Hitogomi ni kiete yuku
Senaka ni mukatte te wo futta
Kinou made ga uso mitai ni mieru

Namida deru hodo waratte
Te wo tsunaide mitsumeaeba
Itsumo (anata no) nioi (kasuka ni)
Mune wo setsunaku shita

Wagamama mo shita shi tsumaranai kenka mo shita
Aenaku naru hi ga kuru koto mo shiranaide"

Two other voices, male, joined in, adding to the chorus and soon after, taking turns with singing various lines. The tones were so familiar that the inner senshi stayed silent in their row, poised at the edge of their seats.

"Ano hi oikakete
Kimochi no subete wo uchiaketara
Kaze mo sora mo mada
Futari dake wo tsutsundeta

Ashita no koto omottara
Kimochi ga sukoshi mae wo muku
Kitto (dokoka ni) tsuzuku (chiisa na)
Michi wo aruite yukou

Hitorikiri ni natta
Aitai yoru ni tsunaida
Kotoba no rain mo ima wa mou todokanai

Ano hi dakishimeta
 Shiawase wo kesshite wasurenaide
 Totemo suki ni natta
 Ano toki no jibun de iyou

Ano hi yume mite ita
 Anata no hitomi wo wasurenaide
 Kaze mo sora mo kitto
 Kanashimi wo keshite kureru

Ano hi dakishimeta
 Shiawase wo kesshite wasurenaide
 Totemo suki ni natta
 Ano toki no jibun de iyou

Ano hi yume mite ita
 Anata no hitomi wo wasurenaide
 Kaze mo sora mo kitto
 Kanashimi wo keshite kureru"

Finally the lights came up during the last repeat and the audience let out huge cheers and screams of surprise and excitement. The back television screen zoomed up on the three singers faces. To the left was a silver-haired young man with bright, pale green eyes with a smile on his face. The middle picture revealed a girl with loose brown hair and gray eyes. The last was a black-haired young man with cornflower blue eyes.

"Masaka!!!!" Minako, Rei, Ami, and Makoto echoed. "Yaten-kun! Seiya-kun!"

Usagi just gaped and then jumped up to join her friends. "Seiya!!!"

The girl on stage seemed to laugh a bit. "Seems everyone knows who these two are…"

There were shouts of "where's Taiki-sama" and such so Yaten looked over the crowd and waved to signal that he'd answer. "Taiki, unfortunately, could not rejoin us when we decided to start with music again! Instead we've gained a new member. Kit, here, isn't such a bad replacement, now is she?"

"You think something happened to Taiki-san?" Ami whispered worriedly.

"I hope not!" Usagi worried.

"We've got to see them after the performance!" Minako announced excitedly. "Yaten-kun is back! Wai ~ !" The others giggled and retook their seats as a familiar song started up.

"Yume no naka de nan domo
So tsu to kuchizuke kawashita
Suki to oru tsuburana hitomi ni
Suikomare teiku

Kimi no naka de madoru mu
Nuku ma ri ni tsutsumarete sou
Aa itsuma demo sa menaideto
Tsuraku sa kebuno sa

Mune no nakuno takanarikara
Jibun de mo honkitoshiru
Setsuna sugite modokashikute
Akiramekirenai…"
~~~~~
"Yare, yare," Kit sighed and let her forehead fall against the dressing room table, "that's a hard job!" Seiya laughed at her and poked her in the shoulder. "Oi! Don't bug me! I'm not used to Earth yet and I haven't had any experience in show business!"
"You sure didn't act that way," Yaten commented. "You did pretty well."
Kit grinned and sat up straight again. "I have to admit… it was rather fun. I like your songs… glad I get to sing them now! Won't Maker miss them?"
The other two were silent glancing away. Finally Seiya answered, "Starlights do not practice such music or on such instruments. They do not understand the feeling you get when you stand out there to sing for the crowd… they don't know how to strum at the guitar or hold the drum sticks…"
"That's a bunch of BS," Kit snapped angrily. "Maker is Taiki as Taiki is Maker. Yaten is Healer as Healer is Yaten. I assume you see the pattern, Fighter. You are one person, one soul."
"But we are two minds," Yaten added before Kit finished. "Healer is for the mission, I am here for more than the mission."
"Yaten is right."
Kit turned away, her face gentling. "You'll have to learn someday that you are one person…" She turned to look into the mirror as she asked mentally, `Seiya… do you deny that you are also Fighter because you do not believe this `Odango' will love you for all of who you are?' She shook her head and began to brush her hair. `I hope this girl shows you that she will care for you no matter what - and show you that you are one person. Perhaps `Seiya' and `Yaten' are a bit more open, but in your minds you are still Fighter and Healer. Don't pretend there is a difference.'
"Let's go, Kitsune-chan," Yaten called while opening the door. She stood up quickly and followed after her friends. "Feel like looking around the carnival for a bit? It's the last one of the year and only has one more day - tomorrow-to be open."
"Why not come tomorrow?"
"We can do that too," Seiya commented, "but it's somewhat fun to explore at night. Feel up to it?" Kit nodded. "Good! Let's go."
They headed out the backstage doors and walked down the steps on their way to the main area. "Yaten-kun ~~~! Seiya-kun ~!" Suddenly Yaten found himself falling to the ground with warm arms wrapping about him. "Wai ~! You're back! You're back! You're back!"
"Minako-chan…" a voice scolded from the side. Surprised, Seiya looked at the group jogging up behind the enthused blonde.
"Seiya!"
He brightened and grinned, waving at the other blonde that parted from the group and came to stand before him with bright eyes. "Yo, Odango! Did you miss me?"
"Hai!" she answered, squeezing him in a brief hug that was more painful to him than perhaps Minako's tackle was to Yaten.
"Oi, someone get this crazed girl off me," Yaten demanded. Usagi giggled down at him and poked Minako with her shoe.
"Minako-chan, get off of Yaten-kun," Usagi ordered, pulling at her friend's shoulders.
Minako began to bawl, big, wet tears sliding down her face as she clung to Yaten tighter. "I thought you left for good!" she wailed. "That's so mean to leave a pretty girl thinking you'll never come back!!!" Yaten sweat-dropped and closed his eyes with a deep sigh.
Kit looked on with a hand covering her mouth to try and prevent laughed. Soon she couldn't help it and began to giggle nonstop at the sight of the blonde girl wailing childishly and pinning Yaten to the ground with her clinging grip. "Shut up, Kitsune!" Yaten snapped. "it's not funny! You know how it feels to be at the bottom of two Starlights, try under one Aino Minako."
The newest Light stopped laughing and tilted her head playfully, "Is it really that bad?" Yaten leveled her with a glare that replied. Kit giggled before going over to help out. She squatted down and reached her arms beneath Yaten's back and pulled him up to his feet - bringing Minako with. "Minako-san ~!" Kit called, "Yaten-chan isn't very nice when he gets frustrated! You should let him go now! I promise that I'll keep him here and that he can't leave without saying goodbye!"
Minako pouted at Kit, "I don't wanna leggo!"
"Baka…" Yaten hissed. "Just let me go!"
Chibi-Usa turned to look up at Mamoru, "Is Minako-chan really that obsessed with him, Mamo-chan?"
Mamoru looked a bit uncomfortable but answered nevertheless. "Chibi-Usa-chan… I wouldn't know."
The child blinked up at him with surprised, red eyes. "Nani?"
"Chibi-Usa-chan," Ami cut in, "that's enough now. Explanations later." She cast Mamoru a weary glance before turning to Seiya. "Is Taiki-san alright? Is he even here?"
"Not on Earth," Seiya replied. "Kitsune, Yaten, Neko, Sukuyo, Kashoko, and I were the ones to come. Nezu and Maker are with Sailor Pluto."
"NANI?!" the inners shouted all at once. Minako finally let go of her hold on Yaten, even, and turned to gape at Seiya.
Kit laughed. "Were you really on such bad terms?"
Seiya glared her way, "A story for a later date, Kit. I thought you researched everything?" She shrugged. "Right…" He turned his attention back to the others. "Pluto is working with Nezu and Maker from the outside to figure out what's going on. We're on the inside."
"Figure out what?" Chibi-Usa asked.
For the first time the Lights noticed the little pink-haired girl and the tall man beside her. "Oh. Mamoru-san," Seiya greeted with no emotion. The other nodded politely back, a bit uncomfortable.
"Who's that?" Yaten asked, not caring about finding a proper way to ask.
Rei was prompt to answer, "Chibi-Usa-chan. She's Small Lady, the princess of the future Crystal Tokyo."
"From the future? How far?" Seiya asked, interested if they might get information.
"Oh… 30th century…"
Yaten, Kit, and Seiya gaped. "O…k…" Kit blinked. "But Fighter, you're not going to get any answers if what Pluto said was right. This hasn't happened before."
"Time could already be altering," another voice remarked, with the sound of bells following.
"Nan de?" Ami whispered, eyes widening. She was sure that sound was with… "Sailor Tin Nyanko?!"
"Aa, Neko-chan! You're back!" Kit bounced up to her friend. "I was wondering where you were!" Everyone was casting blank looks towards the former anima-mate.
Yaten noted the looks and sighed. "There is much to explain, isn't there?" The inners nodded vigorously.
"That can wait until a later time," Kashoko commented as she walked up with Sukuyo. "I apologize for being late. Sukuyo-chan wanted a snack." She sweat-dropped and motioned to the pale-haired woman beside her who was eating happily at cotton candy.
"Why don't they make this at home, Kashoko-chan?" she questioned. "It's so good!"
By now the inners were about permenantly cross-eyed from trying to figure out what was going on. "Why are the anima-mates here?!" The three women looked indignantly at the inners,
"Excuse us," Neko - Tin Nyanko - said, "but that was under Chaos. We are senshi from the system next to yours. I suggest you don't make assumptions at this point in time." She suddenly glanced to her left. "Oh no…" she looked back. "Excuse us. Starlights, the four of us will handle it. Kashoko, Sukuyo -"
"Hai!"
"Nan… nan de desu?" Minako asked, utterly confused.
Sukuyo shooed her back. "No, no. Neko and the Lights are handling this one. Come now. We're going to go wait for them. Come on." She kept motioning them forward and out of the way while Kashoko sighed at her partner's techniques.
The group refused to move, however, seeing that the others were pulling out transformation objects.
"Healer Make Up!"
"Fighter Make Up!"
"Kit Kirei Ki Make Up!"
"Kit Kirei Ki?" Yaten/Healer asked mid-transformation.
"Don't even start…" Kit/Star Kit replied as she continued to transform.
"Nyan Make Up!"
Tin Nyanko, Star Fighter, Star Healer, and Star Kit struck a pose before dashing off. "Matte!" Makoto started to follow but Kashoko stopped her.
"Perhaps I should explain." The serious look on Kashoko's face stopped the others. "There's something building up and we are here to handle it…"
~~~~~
"Star Serious Laser!" Fighter's attack cut easily through the shadow-human's arm, disconnecting it from the body and falling to the ground. The shadow creature's deep emerald eyes - the only feature decipherable - narrowed in annoyance.

Another arm shot out from the stub at the shoulder. "Nani?" Healer hissed.

"Star Fox Blaze!"      "Star Sensitive Inferno!"

This time the shadow jumped up, getting its legs detached instead of its head. "This is just sick!" Star Kit shouted. She sent another net of power into an attack and tried to rope down the creature.

"Ready?" Nyanko called suddenly. No one answered, everyone knowing what they were supposed to do.

"Star Serious Laser!"     "Star Sensitive Inferno!"     "Star Fox Blaze!     "Nyan Kakyoku!"

The shadow dodged two attacks and were hit by two others. Fortunately Fighter's beam of ki had cut through the shadow's chest and had fatally wounded it - enough so that Nyanko's attack finished it off. "That is the new enemy?" Healer asked, already knowing the answer.

"Hai…" Nyanko acknowledged.

Fight tapped her headpiece and spoke, "Maker, did you collect battle data?"

<"We got it, Fighter. Once Nyanko met up with you after the performance we also got that conversation.">

<"Right now,"> it was Mouse this time, <"Kashoko is explaining a lot of why you are here to the inners. She's telling more than she should but Pluto says she won't stop her since - knowing the inners - they'll keep demanding and pushing the point until they know.">

Fighter grinned, "That's true. Out."

<"Right. Ja ne. Out.">

"Let's head back, we're lucky this thing didn't do much damage." Star Kit dug her toe of her boot into the ashes on the ground and dragged out some of the soot. "Hn…"

When they returned to the others, they found them with various serious and confused expressions upon their faces. "Kashoko-san," Fighter said, "Pluto isn't all too happy with you. She didn't stop you, though…"

"… knowing that they would press until they knew," Star Kit finished. Fight glanced over at her calmly. `So they do behave a bit differently… whoa. What am I saying? Seiya acts like this often times. Just that when he's not having to focus on a mission or being a senshi, he's able to goof-off a bit.' She smiled to herself with the thought.

Usagi bit her lip nervously, "Demo… what are we going to do?"

"You are not getting involved, that's for sure," Fighter stated harshly.

Crystal eyes gazed up at him, startled. "Nan de? Won't you need our help? We're senshi too!"

Fighter turned away, "It's our fight. We came here to figure out where the demon is sleeping before hand. Once we know, we'll go back to an earlier time and destroy it before it wakes!"

"But what if you don't find it?" Mamoru asked.

"We'll deal with that then," Healer replied. She powered down; Yaten stuck his transformation headpiece away in a pocket. He glanced over at Fighter and sighed. Looking back at the others, he commented, "Tonight's not a good night to talk. Some other time, ne? We need to go. Come on, let's go - Matte! Fighter!" But she was already gone. `What's her problem?'

Kit, now powered down, shook her head at Yaten. "Let her go, Healer," she murmured. She bowed to the inners. "Hajimemashite. I will see you soon, I am sure." She winked, "Ja ashita ~!" She and her four companions vanished out of sight right after and left the others staring at the empty space.

"They're so different," Usagi murmured sadly.

"You see them in a different light, Usagi-chan," Rei responded. "They're not all that different…" she stood up and stretched. "I'm still surprised to see Crow. Wasn't she sucked into that black hole?"

"Kakyuu-hime destroyed it after being released by Chibi-Chibi," Ami remarked. "Maybe she got out then. It is still a surprise to see those three. Iron Mouse is with Pluto, too."

Chibi-Usa was still incredibly confused, so she spoke up again. "I don't get it. How do you know these people? Who are they?" Everyone was put on pause and the inners gazed at Chibi-Usa, each one waiting for someone else to ask the question on all their minds.

"You have never seen any of the Starlights - in either form - in the future? Does anyone ever even mention them?"

Usagi watched with a strange sense of premonition. "Are there no Starlights in the future?"
*****
Sorry! Couldn't resist the temptation!!! You'll have to wait for the next chapter to learn of what the heck is going on here and see Chibi-Usa's reponse.

Oh, the two songs used are from the series -- quite obviously, since I don't know *that* much Japanese. The first is the Star season ending song: "Kaze mo Sora mo Kitto" [The Wind, The Sky, Surely] and the second is part of Three Lights' "Todokanu Omoi - My Friend's Love" [Thoughts That Cannot Be Delivered]. I left them in Japanese to maintain their true feel... the translations will be on my lyrics page soon so if your interested, go there.
~Lionna~
Other notes: Again, the 'anima-mates' alter names that I use (sans Nezu/Iron Mouse) may not be used without my permission. Sailor Star Kit/Kitsune/Kit is my own character, please ask me before you include her in something. At least let me know where she's being used! And, lastly, the attacks I make up (for ANY of the senshi not just Star Kit, Nyanko, Crow, Siren, and Mouse) took my imagination (I get limited wiht names but... whatever... at least the attacks work!) and I'd rather not let others use the attacks unless they ask permission. It's a pain in the arse coming up with attacks.
