You'll Be In My Heart
Title: You'll Be In My Heart

Comments: This is a story dedicated mostly to Setsuna / Sailor Pluto. A songfic to Phil Collin's "You'll be in my Heart" (one of my favorite songs). It is taking place just after Pluto takes baby Hotaru from Tomoe in the beginning of the Stars series. You can see where it fits in if you've seen the series…
Nov. 12, 2000
~~~~~~~~~~
The child was crying again, its parent wanted.
"Hush little one," a calming voice soothed it.
Still, the baby continued to have droplets of salt-water streak down the tiny face. The woman pulled the baby close, stroking the cheek with one gloved hand. She hummed softly, bringing a gentle noise to the soundless void. Mist swirled around her figure holding the child, yet she hardly noticed anymore.
"You want your daddy, don't you, Hotaru?" She rocked the child carefully. "Hush now, there are other parents who would love to raise you too. They will love you just as he does…"
Come stop your crying;
It will be all right.
Just take my hand,
Hold it tight.
As she sang softly, Sailor Pluto provided a few fingers for Hotaru to grip as she slowed her crying down to listen to the calming voice.
I will protect you
From all around you.
I will be here;
Don't you cry.
The Time Guardian began to move towards a tiny room that was beginning to materialize. The single chair provided what she needed as she sat, holding the baby on her lap. Her lips pulled into a beautiful smile hardly seen by anyone while she continued to sing. `Right now you are still innocent, not knowing of your Saturn heiritege. If only you could have a normal childhood. I wish I could give it to you.'
For one so small
You seem so strong
My arms will hold you,
Keep you safe and warm.
Pluto brought the baby close, not wanting to release the tiny child to the cruel world of reality. Hugging her close, she stroked the little head of hair and whispered the song's words into the tiny ear. Hotaru snuggled into her embrace, chubby hands tightening around long strands of hair for comfort.
This bond between us
Can't be broken.
I will be here;
Don't you cry.
`Everyone will want to see you again. They will be so surprised when they see you are only a baby. Why must I take you from your protected life now? Must you be the one to sacrifice yourself for the princess?' Pluto stared into the void of the Time Streams and wondered what was changing so drastically that she had to call Saturn to rise up again.
`Cuz
You'll be in my heart,
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on,
Now and forever more
She continued to sing softly, rocking the baby as she did so. Hotaru tugged at her hair a bit before sticking some in her mouth. Pluto chuckled softly and watched the child with a fascination of her own. Big, violet eyes stared back at her.
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say.
You'll be here in my heart
Always.
`Always…' Pluto stroked the small cheek with her fingers, again, and marveled at just how small she was. This little girl, who looked so innocent, was actually the embodiment of Death - of Saturn. It was unfair for such a little child to have that - but what life is fair? Her eyes flicked away as she thought of her own solitary life. Perhaps that was why she clung so tightly to this child now. This child who stared with her with such interest and love…
Why can't they understand the way we feel?
They just don't trust
What they can't explain.
I know we're different
But, deep inside us
We're not that different at all
Pluto stood and managed to get her hair away from the mouth of the baby. She smiled, amused, and brought the child before her, holding her up to look down at herself. Hotaru squirmed a bit with delighted giggles and after a bit, Pluto returned the baby to the safety of her arms. She began to walk down the Time corridors, boot heels clicking in accompaniment to her voice.
And
You'll be in my heart,
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on,
Now and forever more
They were fast approaching the brightest glowing Time Gate. Pluto paused before it, clutching Hotaru more tightly to her.
Don't listen to them
`Cuz what do they know?
We need each other
To have, to hold.
They'll see in time,
I know.
Her eyebrows furrowed with emotion and she bowed her head as she brought Hotaru up closer to her face. The little hands reached out and gently hit against her face while Hotaru giggled. Pluto's grim look broke just slightly while she smiled a bit.
When destiny calls you
You must be strong.
I may not be with you,
But you've got to hold on.
They'll see in time,
I know.
We'll show them together;
The Gate suddenly opened without her consent and Pluto snapped her head up. Her fuku and hair, along with the blanket about Hotaru, blew with a strong breeze passing through. `No…' She stared with widened eyes, watching the white light that pulsed on the other side of the door. Once she crossed these bounds, everything could end. But no one could alter Fate or Destiny. `I'm so sorry, Hotaru…'
Pluto straightened up, only allowing her eyes to tear, but none to fall. One booted foot moved forward, and her Time Staff appeared before her, moving into her hand. She stood, looking strong and untouchable as always, as she held the baby with one arm.
`Cuz
You'll be in my heart.
Believe me,
You'll be in my heart.
I'll be there from this day on,
Now and forevermore.
She took another step, the power now licking at her arms and legs. Hotaru began to sniffle. Her wide eyes turned up to Pluto's hard face and slowly she calmed. Even being that young, the Saturn soul within her called her to step forward with pride for her duty. The baby clung to the bow of the senshi before her and blinked calmly at the maroon gaze that turned down to her.
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart
Always.
She felt so bad, as if she were betraying the child in her arms. Pluto's feet moved on their own accord; one step. Two. Three. Four! There were only two more steps to go and she forced herself to pause. `Hotaru…'
`Setsuna-san, she knows what her Fate is. Do not keep her from it.'
Pluto closed her eyes briefly. `Just wait…' she thought for a moment. Her mouth opened again and she continued to sing softly, planning to finish the song as they crossed through the Gate.
Always.
I'll be with you.
I'll be there for you always.
Always and always.
Her foot moved closer. One step left. She stared into the blinding light, feeling the baby's hold on her fuku bow tightened. `Don't worry,' she thought while she sang. `I am here.'
She took the last step.
Just look over your shoulder.
The light encased them in its glow, and heat wrapped about them in an overwhelming feel.
Just look over your shoulder.
Hotaru was gripping tightly to Pluto and the senshi could almost tell that the baby was trying not to cry. `Cry, little one. Cry if you need to right now. In the future you won't be allowed to - you'll be grown up too fast.' She sang another broken line before clutching the baby to her, feeling silent tears on her shoulder where Hotaru's face was.
Just look over your shoulder;
Things were beginning to clear and she could make out the starry night of Tokyo. She shielded the baby when she noted the unusual falling stars that were coming down in huge amounts. She frowned a bit, still singing the second to last line. She glanced over to the left and noted the aquarium building. Up at the very top she could make out two familiar forms - a blond girl and her companion with turquoise hair. `We meet again, Neptune, Uranus.'
I'll be there always.
Pluto moved towards the building, then stopped a few meters from it. She stroked the baby's face again, noting its sleeping form. She smiled grimly and placed a small kiss onto the little forehead. Heat pulsed and built up in that one spot - `Saturn is trying to come. Can she not wait and give the child some peace?'
"Come, little one."
"It is time."
