Truthful Feelings
"Truthful Feelings"
G
By Sailor ClearMoon
Ranma put both hands behind his head as he strolled down the sidewalk, mindlessly humming an unknown tune.
A few blocks over, Akane sat on the edge of a bridge and swung her legs. Sighing, she let the flower in her hand fall down to the river.

Sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon

Akane brushed the hair from her eyes and looked at the sunset. The faint sound of footsteps reached her ears, followed by humming. Surprised, she looked up and gasped softly.
Not really thinking where he was going, Ranma found himself about to cross a bridge. Thinking nothing of it, he began to walk over but suddenly stopped as he saw another figure sitting there. Her face was turned to him with wonder written across her face. In her eyes he saw… something unfamiliar to him…
***
I see the passion in your eyes
Sometimes it's all a big surprise
***
"What you looking at?" Ranma huffed, not sure what to do.
Akane bristled too and sniffed, "What are you doing here?"
Ranma rolled his eyes, "I asked you first, so answer." The other girl lifted her nose and turned her head. 'Fine then…' he thought, "I was just out for a walk, have a problem with that?"
***
'Cause there was a time when all I did was wish
You'd tell me this was love
***
Akane turned to him in surprise, 'What? He actually answered me? He… usually doesn't….' She shook her head in frustration, 'Why do I even care?'
Ranma leaned his back against the railing, facing the opposite direction of Akane. 'She's taking forever to answer…' just as he was about to leave Akane spoke up.
"Hey Ranma, do you ever want to just get away?"
He sighed, thinking for a moment if he would answer or not. Finally he replied, "Yes, Akane, I do… sometimes…" he trailed of.
***
It's not the way I hoped or how I planned
But some how it's enough
***
Again she looked at him, not used to the times when they could have a normal conversation without fighting. She was startled out of her thoughts by Ranma's next question, "So what about you?"
"Huh?" she turned back to him.
"Well do you ever wanna get away?"
***
And now we're standing face to face
Isn't this world a crazy place?
***
"Oh… well…" nervousness swept over her and Akane ran her fingers through her hair, "Yeah, sometimes. I just want to get away from everyone at times- it gets to be too much…"
Ranma silently agreed, not used to agreeing with her. She'd think him… weak… or something.

"Why would you want to get away?" Akane asked after realizing Ranma had never given a reason for why he'd want to leave.
Ranma blinked twice before answering, "Well you know how I don't get along with my old man, that's one of the many reasons. Also it's just too annoying around here at times… I especially can't stand all these girls hanging all over me…" he muttered. Akane started to giggle, causing Ranma to stiffen and ask, "What's so funny?"
"I always thought that… well you liked it, I mean you really don't show too much resistance…" Akane grinned at him. Ranma reddened as he sputtered excuses.
***
All of the night you came to me
When some silly girl had set you free
***
Ranma gave up and continued again with his original answer, "Another thing is… well I still want to get back to China, try and find a reversing spell or something."
Akane tilted her head while studying Ranma, "You really think there's something out there?"
He tightened his fist in determination, "There has to be!" he cried out; quieter he repeated, "There has to be…"
"Ranma…" Akane started.
***
You wondered how you'd make it through
I wondered what was wrong with you
***
He sighed and turned back to her, "Sorry, didn't mean to go on like that…" Akane was startled to say the least,
"No, it's okay… um…" again she pulled at her hair, nervous as to what to do.
"So Akane, were you ever interested in any guy at all?"
A very reddened Akane sat up straight, "What? Ranma! Why do you have to ask me that type of thing?"
"Fine then, just don't answer. Good day," Ranma was about to walk off but she stopped him.
"Wait…" the girl reached out a hand to stop him and he turned back to her in wonder. "I'll be open.. I mean there's nothing to hide. And the answer's no anyway, I was never interested in any guy." 'But now…' she broke off her thoughts.
***
'Cause how could you give your love to someone else
And share your dreams with me
***
"Yeah, well…" Ranma coughed to clear the tension, "I was never interested in anyone either…"
Akane looked surprised, "What? Even before you were cursed?"
"Nah… nobody interested me…" he raised his hands behind his head and looked down at the river. He was oblivious to the fact that the girl next to him was studying him carefully. "But maybe…" he started, "Maybe there's one girl…"
"Oh, well I'm still looking…"
Ranma broke in, "well you do know in the end that we're already betrothed."
"So? We can have some time before we're married," Akane made a funny face at him.
"yeah…"

Sighing, Akane moved her legs back and forth as the silence continued. She was barely aware when her body started to fall forward. Akane let out a shrill shriek as she fell from her perch on the edge of the railing.
"Akane!" Ranma exclaimed, reaching out a hand to grab her arm. Just barely grabbing her sleeve, he worked on getting a better hold. "Hold on a second…"
"Hurry up Ranma!" She called back.
He grunted in reply, "Yeah, yeah… whoa!" suddenly he found himself slipping with her. 'Oh no…' he thought.
With a splash, two female figures sat up in the water. "Darn, I hate cold water…" Ranma muttered.
Akane sighed, "Well maybe if you had pulled me up you wouldn't have to worry about it!" Ranma snorted and turned her back on Akane. 'Well there went another conversation that was actually going somewhere…'

The next day dawned bright and early to find two young people out on the streets. Panting as she jogged along, Akane thought back to the conversation that she had with Ranma the night before. 'He's probably up already too…' she thought.
Ranma paused for a moment and jogged in place as he thought of which way to go. He was surprised when he spotted another figure to down the street to his right and decided to go that way. When he was able to make out whom the person was he called, "Hey Akane! I didn't know you trained in the morning."
She stopped and turned to him, "Oh, good morning Ranma! My training in the morning is new… I just started a few days ago."
"Well at least you're shaping up," Ranma commented as he joined her.
"Thank you," Akane whispered.

Ranma looked surprised, "For what?"
"Um… you never really compliment me or anything… so it's sometimes nice for the change…" Akane blushed and dug her toe into the grass nearby.
He looked down, "Oh… well do you want to jog with me?"
"What?" she looked up at him in shock, "S-sure…" she stuttered. Ranma started and the two jogged at a steady pace along the streets, staying silent for a while.
Both cast sideways glances at one another as they held their thoughts to themselves.

Finally they stopped in the middle of a back alley, just waiting for a while. "Well…" they both started.
Again the silence stretched and then finally it was broken, "Y'know Ranma, sometimes you can be pretty nice…" Akane blushed after she said her words, worried that he would tease her.
Surprisingly Ranma began to redden himself, "Well… you're not so bad yourself…"

Akane shrugged her shoulder, "We should talk more often, seems like we're not such enemies…"
"Hmm… I guess."
"What do you mean, `I guess'?" she demanded. Ranma didn't answer her, which confused her. Without thinking the words rushed past her lips, "Y'know Ranma, I really don't think you're all that bad… I mean I really do like you and all… and well… maybe I could go as far as to say `love'…" Akane's eyes went wide and she covered her mouth with both hands as she blushed profusely.
Ranma stared at her after the surprising outburst.

It was silent for a while and Akane's heart sped up so fast that she wasn't sure how long she had `til she fainted.
The silence was broken when Ranma placed a hand on her should, "Um actually Akane… the truth is… well… I kinda like you too I guess, maybe it is… really…" he shrugged a little, "Maybe it is love, or the start…" his eyebrows knitted together as he waited for her to say something.
She didn't end up using words at all, but wrapped her arms about his neck and brushed her lips against his. In surprise, Ranma didn't react until Akane's actions settled into his brain. Finally he responded by kissing her back.
When they broke apart both were stuttering. "Um… well…"
"Uh…."
"Maybe… maybe we should keep it like this for a while… y'know what I mean?" Ranma breathed.
"Yeah, I understand… it's really weird… hmm?" Akane rubbed her arm, "For now let's not tell anybody. But just so you know… Ranma, I do love you…"
Ranma turned his back and waited for a while, causing Akane to worry. "Akane… I… I love you too…"
He turned back to find Akane smiling at him, when they again started to jog their hands were joined. The day would come when the two of them would accept their relationship and they would be open about it; but for the time being they'd be secretive.

Author's notes: This is my first ever Ranma 1/ 2 fic. The series is quite funny and I like it, I'm a newer fan having only seen the first two OAV's, first two episodes, and one movie: "Akane and Her Sisters". However I love Akane's character and enjoy the romance that you can pick out between her and Ranma.
