Sweet Surprise Baby Blanket

This beautiful baby blanket will make a wonderful gift for that special arrival.  Using pastel baby colours with a white contrast really sets this blanket apart from all other blankets.

Level: easy - medium

Tools Required:
3.50mm / 0 US crochet hook
4ply baby yarn – white
4ply baby yarn – pink
4ply baby yarn – yellow
4ply baby yarn – blue

Instructions:
Rnd 1 - Using 3.50mm crochet hook and blue baby yarn, ch 4, 2dc in 4th ch (3dc, ch2) 3 times in 4th ch, join with sl st in top of ch 4.  Fasten off.

Rnd 2 - With right side facing join white baby yarn with a sc into any ch2 space, ch4, sc in centre of 3dc group, ch4, * sc in next ch2 space, ch4, skip next dc, sc in next sc, ch4, rep from * 2 more times.  Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 3 - Sl st in first ch4 space, ch1, sc in same space, ch4, *(sc in next ch4 space, ch4), rep from * around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  Finish off.

Rnd 4 - With right side facing join yellow baby yarn with a sl st in last ch4 space made, ch3 (2dc, ch3, 3dc) in same space, ch1, 3dc in next ch4 space, ch1, *(3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch4 space, ch1, 3dc ch4 space, ch1, rep from * 2 more times. Join with a sl st to first dc.  Finish off.

Rnd 5 - With right side facing join white baby yarn with a sc in any corner ch3 space, ch3, sc in same space, ch3, (sc in next ch1 space, ch3) twice * (sc, ch3) twice in next corner ch3 space, (sc in net ch1 space, ch3) twice, rep from * 2 more times.  Join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 6 - sl st in first ch3 space, ch1, (sc in same space, ch3) twice, (sc in next ch3 space, ch3) twice, * (sc, ch3) twice in corner ch3 space, (sc in next ch3 space, ch3) across to next corner ch3 space, rep from * 2 more times.  Join with a sl st to first sc. Finish off

Rnd 7 - With right side facing join baby pink yarn with a sl st in any corner, ch3 (2dc, ch3, 3dc) in same corner, ch1, *3dc in next ch3 space, ch1, work across to next corner, 3dc, ch3, 3dc in next corner. rep from * around ending with sl st to first dc.

Repeating the above rnds, alternate colours in the following order:

white
yellow
white
pink
white
blue

Crochet to desired size ending with a last colours repeat at blue. 

Make up:
Work a round of sc around blanket edge using white baby yarn and doing 3 sc in corner.  You can do a final edge of your choosing or you can leave the edge as is. Weave in all ends.
