This is a very beautiful and easy
preemie burial gown for you to crochet.
Level:
easy - medium
Tools Required:
2.5mm crochet hook
No 10 Mercerized Cotton – White
White ribbon
3 small white buttons
Instructions:
NOTE: The bodice
is made in one piece.
Row 1 – ch 59, dc in 4th ch, dc across to end
Row 2 – ch3, dc across to end
Row 3 – ch3, dc across to end
FIRST BACK
Row 1 – ch3, dc in 9sts (10sts)
Row 2 – ch3, dc across
Row 3 – ch3, dc across. Fasten off
FRONT
Row 1 – sk 5 dc, join yarn in next st, ch3, dc across next 24 sts
Row 2 – ch3, dc across
Row 3 – ch3, dc across
SHOULDER
Row 1 – ch3, dc across next 5dc (6sts)
Row 2 – ch3, dc across
Row 3 – ch3, dc across
Row 4 – ch3, dc across. Fasten off
SHOULDER
Row 1 – join yarn on front at other end, ch3, dc across next 5dc (6sts)
Row 2 – ch3, dc across
Row 3 – ch3, dc across
Row 4 – ch3, dc across. Fasten off
SECOND BACK
Row 1 – Join yarn to end of 3rd row, ch3, dc across 9sts
(10sts)
Row 2 – ch3, dc across
Row 3 – ch3, dc across. Fasten off
SKIRT
Ribbon hole row
Row 1 – Join yarn to bodice edge, ch4, *sk1, dc in next st, ch1, rep from
* to end
Row 2 – ch3, 1 dc in ch1 sp, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) shell made in next ch1 sp,
rep from * to last sp, 1dc in ch1 sp, 1dc in 3rd ch of ch4
Rep Row 2 until you have worked 16 rows of shells
Ribbon hole row
Row 1 - ch4, *dc in ch2 of shell, ch1, rep from * to end.
Row 2 – ch3, 1 dc in ch1 sp, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) shell made in next ch1 sp,
rep from * to last sp, 1dc in ch1 sp, 1dc in 3rd ch of ch4
Repeat Row 2 two times more.
Row 5 – ch1, sc across all sts to end. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
SLEEVES
(make 2)
Row 1 – join yarn at centre of underarm and do a row of sc. Join with sl
st.
Row 2 – ch3, 1dc, ch2, 2dc in first sc, *sk1, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sc,
rep from * to end. Join with sl st in top of ch3
Row 3 – ch3, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next shell, rep from * to end. Join with
sl st to top of ch3.
Row 4 – ch3, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next shell, rep from * to end. Join with
sl st to top of ch3.
Row 5 – ch5, * dc in centre shell, ch2, rep from * to end. Join with sl
st in 3rd ch of ch5.
Row 6 – ch1, sc in each dc, and 2sc in each ch2 sp. Join with sl st.
Repeat Row 5 - 4 more times around both sleeves. Fasten off.
Cut two pieces of ribbon about 40cm in length and thread through ribbon
holes made.
Tie in a bow at centre front.
MAKE UP:
With wrong side facing count down 4 rows of shells. Sew back seam.
Work a row of sc around neck edge and back opening remembering to make 3sc
in corners.
** You may wish to mark the button placing and when doing the row sc, to
ch4 to make a button loop. Sew buttons onto back of bodice. Thread
ribbon through ribbon holes made in bodice and tie into a bow at the front
of the bodice. Thread ribbon through ribbon holes made at the bottom of
gown. Gently pull together to close bottom of gown. Tie into a bow at
front of the gown.

*** to make the gown smaller, change down hook size to 2mm. to make gown
bigger take hook size up to 3mm and change to 3ply baby wool ***
