Garter St Hat Pattern

This is a great hat pattern in Garter St for a beginner or for someone
who wants to knit a preemie hat in a hurry.

Level: easy

Materials Needed:
3.25mm needles
4ply baby wool
Needle for sewing seams

Instructions:
Using 3.25mm needles cast on 60sts
Row 1 - knit
Row 2 - knit
Rep last 2 rows 7 times (completing 16 rows total in garter st)
Purl 1 row for hemline
Rep first 2 rows 15 times (completing 30 rows total in garter st)

Shape Crown:
Row 1 - *sl 1, k1, k2tog, k5, rep from * to end
Row 2 and alt rows - knit
Row 3 - *sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k3, rep from * to end
Continue decreasing as above till you have 12 sts left.
Next Row - knit
Next Row - *k2tog, rep from * to end (6sts)
Fasten off leaving enough yarn to thread through the remaining 6sts.
Draw up thread and fasten securely with a knot.  Sew seam till you
reach the purl ridge, then turn work facing the right side and finish sewing brim. 
Fold up brim.

Optional:
You may like to add a pompom to the top of the hat.
