Garter St Hat Pattern

This a great garter stitch preemie hat. It is knitted using 8ply baby yarn and dpns.
This pattern is very similar to the Preemie Hat Pattern 1, but using dpns.
It is a great teaching pattern if you want to learn to use dpns.

Level: easy-medium

Materials Needed:
4.00mm dpns
8ply baby wool
Needle for sewing seams

Instructions:
Using 4.00mm dpns / US 6 cast on 42sts evenly onto 3 needles
Rnd 1 - purl
Rnd 2 - knit
Rep last 2 rnds 7 times (completing 16 rnds total in garter st)
Purl 2 rnds for hemline
Rep first 2 rnds 15 times (completing 30 rnds total in garter st)
Purl 1 rnd

Shape Crown:
Rnd 1 - *sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k5, rep from * to end
Rnd 2 and all alt rows - purl
Rnd 3 - *sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k3, rep from * to end
Continue decreasing in this way till you have 12sts remaining
Next Row - purl
Next rnd - slip first st to needle in right hand, *k1, k2tog, rep from * to end
Next Row - *k2tog, rep from * to end
Fasten off leaving enough wool, to thread the top 6 remaining sts.
Draw up thread and fasten securely. Fold up cuff on the right side of work.

Optional:
You may like to add a pompom to the top of the hat.
