This is a very easy preemie sweater which you
can make.
It looks nice if decorated with little flowers or ribbon bows or
pretty buttons.
Level:
easy - medium
Tools Required:
3mm needles
3.25mm needles
3 buttons
4ply baby wool
Needle for sewing seam
Instructions:
BACK:
Using 3.25mm needles cast on 35sts
Work in garter st until your work measures 16cm.
SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 4 sts at beginning of next 4 rows, then3 sts at beg of foll 2
rows.
Cast of remaining stitches.
LEFT FRONT:
Using 3.25mm needles cast on 17sts
Work as the same for back until there are 13 rows less than back of
shoulder shaping.
SHAPE NECK:
Cast of 3 sts at beginning of nest row
**Decrease one st at neck edge in next and following 4th rows until 11sts
rem.
Work 3 rows garter st**
SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 4sts at beginning of next and following alt row.
Knit 1 row.
Cast off 3 remaining sts.
RIGHT FRONT:
Using3.25mm needles cast on 17sts
Work as given for left front until there are 14 rows less than back of
shoulder shaping.
SHAPE NECK:
Cast off 3sts at beginning of next row
Knit 1 row.
Cast off remaining sts
SHAPE SHOULDER:
Work as for left front shoulder shaping
SLEEVES:
Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 29sts
Work in garter sts, increasing 1st at each end of 4th row and following
10th rows until there are 35sts.
Cont without further shaping until work measures 6cm from beginning
SHAPE TOP:
Cast off 4 sts at beginning of next 4 rows, then 5 sts at beginning of
following 2 rows
Cast off remaining 9sts
NECKBAND:
Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, and using 3mm needles,
knit up 34sts evenly around neck edge.
Knit 1 row
Cast of LOOSELY
LEFT FRONT BAND:
With right side facing and using 3mm needles, begin at neck edge of
left front, and knit up 2sts, yfwd, miss 2 rows (making a buttonhole),
*knit up 5 sts, yfwd, miss 2 rows (making a buttonhole), rep from * once,
knit up 12sts along remaining left front edge. **3 buttonholes made**
Knit 1 row
Cast off LOOSELY
RIGHT FRONT BAND:
The same as left front band but omitting buttonholes.
MAKE UP:
Tie a marker 8cm down from the start of shoulder shaping on edges of
back & fronts to mark the placement of armholes. Placing the centre of
sleeves to shoulder seam, and sew sleeves into place evenly between
markers made. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
