description: I am currently the Manager for the Center for Applied Biodiversity Science at Conservation International. I was a former Fulbright scholar in Chile working as a collaborating scholar with the Fundacion Instituto Indigena while I conducted my research in the sector of Icalma in the Comuna of Lonquimay with the Pehuenche.While in Chile, I was the liason for the First Lady's visit to Temuco in April of 1998 to meet with Mapuche groups. I continue to conduct research with respect my investigation and the Pueblo Mapuche.

I recieved my BA in Latin American Studies from George Washington University in May 1997. My previous experiences with the Mapuche-Mapuche Pehuenche culture were in 1995 when I conduct a study on the Mantisfestacions of Urban Mapuche Movements in Temuco and in 1996 when I worked with a traditional Mapuche silversmith studying the cultural and religious symbolism of the Mapuche Jewelry.

I currently resident in Washington, DC with my husband, Fabian Painemilla who is from the Communidad de Piedra Alta in the Comuna de Puerto Saavedra, IX Region.
