VERSACE
1/
Identify Basic Information
http://www.versace.com
30/10/2003
2/
First Impressions
Simplistic layout makes it inviting to navigate area.
Colours and text format used. The Versace website predominantly
consists of visual. The visitor would be an individual
interested in fashion. My impression is that the website
communicates well with visitors. Limited difficulty to
navigate site.
3/
Home Page Pretest
The most obvious clickable areas were the rows of smaller
text headings, although two areas within page were also
links, the image and larger text.
4/
Sub-page Pretesting
Sub-page total 7.
Discovered that one of three small boxes positioned within
page takes you back to home page, this being confusing
as it does not visually indicate being a link. Smaller
text links are continuous throughout layout, utilizing
size and colour as the specific format. Text links alter
in colour when moused over. Pages differ in layout, although
are similar in style and some utilize a small window.
5/
Site Navigation Testing
All pages within site have bright text; you identify each
page. This site has text links to all pages, also to the
home page located at the top of page. No scrolling within
this site.
6/
Task Analysis
Text content of site requires limited reading within pages
and does not require an extended time factor to obtain
information. The overall website is more often than not
visual. Throughout pages, Versace site does not offer
a printer-friendly facility. No site map or search facility
is located. Attempting to obtain information on sunglasses
within a page required clicking four links to obtain only
a visual of sunglasses. No extended information was provided
for this item, i.e. pricing, purchasing facilities and
product range.
7/
Execution Analysis
My analysis found the content quality is adequate. Sourcing
information requires little or no effort. Content of information
is accurate to the website visitor’s requirement.
Technical execution:
CSE HTML Validator Professional v6.01 generated 9 error
messages. These problems may damage this web page's search
engine rankings as well as cause viewing problems for
visitors.
ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION: Of all the messages generated,
3 messages had to do with accessibility. This page did
not generate any accessibility errors or warnings.
8/
Final Impression
Versace is very clean visually and displays adequate links
to extended information. Graphic images and text is proportionate
throughout site. The simplistic layout would be appreciated
by website visitor, although some product information
is limited. Visual and navigation design was user friendly
- a pleasure to visit.

Vogue
1/
Identify basic information
http://www.vogue.com
30/10/2003
2/
First impressions
Visually overwhelming layout consisting of over-consumption
with graphic images and various text content.
3/
Home Page Pretest
Organisation's name is clear initially. It is identified as
being for the fashion industry by graphic images although excessive
text reading is required to obtain full understanding. Bolder
text was presumed to be a link although not underlined. Website
visitor would require reading text to discover link facility.
Twenty-two alternate links accessible by mousing over various
graphic images and text.
4/
Sub-Page Pretesting
Sub-page total 10.
Was correct in assuming all links within banner carry website
visitor onto excessive alternate links and information. Website
could carry visitor on a path of no return!
5/
Site Navigation Testing
Fault within banner on home page only resulting in web page
to jolt and drop down displaying repeated links in smaller text.
One sub-page unable to display top banner due to error. Excessive
scrolling on all pages. No back to top page links obtained,
also no sitemap or index displayed.
6/
Task Analysis
Over-consumption of various texts, fonts and styles leaves visitor
confused. Printer icon on the imbedded tool bar only. Contact
link is displayed at bottom of each page. Obtaining information
within site is accessible. Searching for a shirt provided options,
sizes and pricing. Unsure of accuracy and information due to
errors within site. Suitable content is displayed for website
visitor.
7/
Execution Analysis
Content quality is adequate although over consumption of colour
and layout.
Technical execution:
CSE HTML Validator Professional v6.01 generated 21 error messages.
In fact, this web page generated so many errors that HTML Validator
terminated the check before it went through the whole document.
These problems may damage this web page's search engine rankings
as well as cause viewing problems for visitors.
ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION: Of all the messages generated, 3
messages had to do with accessibility. It is very likely that
there are opportunities to improve this web site's accessibility.
8/ Final Impression
Vogue consisted of over consumption with graphic images and
various texts. Excessive use of links. Congratulations although
for content information to visitor all is obtainable. With layout
being confusing I would find a quick exit from site the easier
path to follow.
