The Slits, formed in London in 1976, with original members Ari Up (on vocals) Palmolive(drums) Kate Korus(guitar) and Suzi Gutsy (bass). However Kate and Suzi were replaced by Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollit shortly before the Slits were picked up to go on tour with the Clash in 1977. It took them until 1978 to finally secure a record deal with Island Records, and they released their first album, the dub influenced Cut. It wasn't until 1981 when they would release their next album, Return Of The Giant Slits, and then disband shortly after. Although the Slits were actually only together for around six years, they made an impact bigger than they could have known at the time. One of the first female punk bands they were primal, raw, caustic and opiniated...but most of all revolutionary. They influenced and inspired modern day "riot grrrrl" bands like 7 Year Bitch, Hole, Bikini Kill and Babes In Toyland. The purpose of this site is to supply lyrics to the Slits albums, which seem to be next to impossible to find!
