Finn and Firkin, Birmingham, Saturday 8 December

//Andrew Loly - Guitar, Vocals //Mark Corderoy - Bass //Scott Whitten - Drums

Now if you've been following all this, or, better still, at all of the gigs (this would really just mean any of us or Andy, Jim, and James), then you'd remember a delightful encounter we had with Da 'Twang (ie. "Neon Twang"). We really hoped we would never have to play on the same bill as this band again, but no, Fate would not have it so.

It wasn't too long before we were due to play (after Jinja, to be precise, at around 6pm) that Da 'Twang appeared initially in the form of their blonde bassist. We were all civil and polite and blah blah blah we played our gig (by the way it went really well, it was nice'n'tight and felt honest somehow) and this time there was no heckling from the Twangsters and then there was another band on of kids around 16 - 17 and they were alright but they got some shit from the Neon Boys AANNNDDDD...... etc etc to cut a long story-

They came on stage and started their set, assuming Oasis pose and getting cheered on by their 20-odd entourage of lads and ladettes and then, just when the singer starts his impersonation of Liam, ONE OF THEIR MICS STARTS FEEDING BACK!!!! It's all by the grace of God Almighty. They have to stop, and then start again. Then, just when you thought that the Lord's justice had been dealt upon them, ONE OF THEIR MICS CONTINUES TO FEED BACK!!!!! So for Neon Twang, it's third time lucky, and for them this rule held true when they started getting pissed off with the soundman and he fixed the problem for good. Close call, Twangmen, we'll be seeing you around.... Well, hopefully not actually.

The night went on, we met the 'Twang's singer's father and he was a bit xenophobic and didn't like our Norweigan friends Lars and Flu (who are, I might add, eminently likeable). Well anyway, the night before was actually really fun. Glenn and Andrew went to the pub and got pissed trying to sell tickets and ended up crashing at Lars and Flu's university residence. It was a cool night, Glenn got well stoned (poor boy likes indulging in All Things Sleep) and we did some 'unplugged' songs for the poor people in the kitchen. They liked it but it was a pretty quite jam given that people were asleep in the halls around us. Great fun.

One last word: Lars and Flu, it's great buying tickets for a gig, but usually it helps to arrive before the band you came to see has played :)

Interesting points:

Lars was late.

Flu was late.

Guitar amp spent 3 days in the back of friend Simon's car (can't be healthy for it really can it???). This was to facilitate taking our Norweigan friends out to a night club to say thankyou for their hospitality and as a send-off 'cos they have now left to go back to their homeland. Safe journey, dudes!!!
