WHEREAS, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, understanding the threats posed to God's creation and God's children, has spoken out on the danger of nuclear weapons;
WHEREAS, the nuclear weapons danger has increased recently;
WHEREAS "For People of Faith: An Urgent Call" proposes a realistic set of steps that can be taken to reduce the nuclear danger;
WHEREAS, Mark S. Hanson, the Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, has endorsed "For People of Faith: An Urgent Call";
BE IT RESOLVED, that

1. Endorse "For People of Faith: An Urgent Call" (over);
2. Urge our synod to endorse this "Urgent Call" and to distribute it to the congregations of the synod, encouraging them to hold forums and discussions in their congregation and community and urging endorsement of the Call by congregations and individual members;
3. Urge our synod to memorialize the 2003 ELCA Churchwide Assembly to adopt this resolution, ask the Lutheran Office for Governmental Affairs to provide leadership for its implementation, and request that synods help support "For People of Faith: An Urgent Call."
