Impossibilium Tragically Hip Tabbed out by: pancreas@mail.utexas.edu. This is the basic introduction riff, as far as I can tell. It resurfaces throughout the song in various moments of intensity. I didn't transcribe any of the actual guitar parts later in the song because clearly it's improvisatory so i didn't bother. If you don't really need it, i'd suggest jamming it up. Also i'm not too sure this is accurate because i'm transcribing it with the assumption that there are no overdubs and gordon downie is not playing guitar. If there are overdubs I guess the riff could be split up. That would make the finger stretch somewhat easier. You should let every note in the introduction riff ring to provide thicker texturing...anyways- it'd be harder to mute the notes than just play them outright. Also- the second figure on the top three strings should be played in two and not as tripets to get the correct accents. 1----------------5--------5-------5-------5-- 2-------------------3--------3-------3------- 3-------2-----------------------2-------2---- 4-----0---0---------------------------------- 5---0---------------------------------------- 6--3----------------------------------------- Riff two 3-----------------0--1-2 4------------0-0-------- 5---0----3-------------- 6----------------------- After several bars of this, the second guitar enters, mimicing the riff with fuzzier distortion than the first. It's my guess that the distortion on guitar one is just standard tube amp distortion and the second is some sort of fuzz pedal- I personally use a big muff. It works fine. The verse chords are open standard Ams and Gs, strummed without hitting the high E string so the C to B alternation on the G string is brought out as the top line.
