~My Favorite Poems~

A Voice from God
When my dad said he had cancer,
He sat me on a chair.
He said, “Maddie, be my little dancer.”
And I looked at him with a sad glare.
Why did my dad want me to go on?
I thought he’d want me home.
My family was taking this very strong,
I felt like a sea of polluted foam.
So I prayed one night for an answer from God,
And there came a voice in my head.
It said, “Go forth,” with a confident nod,
So I listened to what he had said.
I danced, and danced, and danced some more,
It made Dad not so sad.
His heart was warm and not so sore,
I cried because I was glad.

You Tell On Yourself

You tell on yourself by the friends you seek.
By the very manner in which you speak.
By the way you employ your leisure time.
By the use you make of dollar and dime.
You tell what you are by the things you wear.
By the spirit in which your burdens you bear.
By the kind of things at which you laugh.
By the records you play on the phonograph.

You tell what you are by the way you walk.
By the things of which you delight to talk.
By the manner in which you bear defeat.
By so simple a thing as how you eat.

By the books you choose
From the well-filled shelf;
In these ways and more, you tell on yourself;
Se there’s really no particle of sense
In an effort to keep up a false pretense.

Love is Patient and kind;
love is not jealous, or
conceited, or proud;
love is not ill-mannered,
or selfish, or irritable;
love does not keep a
record of wrongs; love is
not happy with evil, but is
happy with the truth.
Love never gives up: its
Faith, hope and patience
Neverfail.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Choose Life

Life is precious,
But God takes it away.
Why, we just don’t know.
And in time we come to accept
That it was their time to go.
But what happens
When one takes his or her own life,
Leaving loved ones in despair.
Why did this person not understand?
There are people here who care.
Peers understand it’s hard to cope
When pressures get too great,
But choosing death should not be
Your only choice or fate.
So when life’s problems get you down
And you cannot see the end,
Find the time to call someone,
A buddy, peer, or friend.

Lord, make me an instrument of
Your peace.
Where there is hatred
let  me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness,
Oh, Lord, give me joy.
