The Paul-story so far
Y'alright?
I'm Paul and I'm the oldest member of a1. I grew up in the East End until I was 11, and then Hertfordshire. When I was 18,
I moved to just outside Benidorm in Spain. I'm a Spanish citizen and that's where my heart is.
Here is a little about me
and my life:
I was born January 24, 1975 in East End in England.
And three words that
easely describes me is: Small, bald and cool! It's a rhyming three-word description!
I grew up with my mum and dad and my older sister Shareen. She is four
years older that me.
I did lots of different things before I joined a1. I modelled for Christian Dior once on the Spanish equivalent of
the Clothes Show, but I've also been a representative for a food company on the Costa Blanca, I've filmed dancers and hypnotists,
I've worked in a burger bar and danced in a nightclub. That was the best job, because I got paid to do something I love.
I've
always loved music but I didn't start singing properly until two years ago when a record producer discovered me in my dad's
karaoke bar on New Year's Eve. I did some demo tapes for him, but then I read about an audition for a1 and went for it, thinking
it would be good experience. I was the only one chosen, so I thought, I have to do something about this!
My
number one musical hero is one person and one person only. PRINCE.
The peoples that made me wanna sing and preform like
I do is people like Prince because I like watching them performing. But my dad, who used to be a singer said you don't get
a better feeling than being on a stage singing.
My dad's
so proud of me, because not only am I living out my dream, but his too! He used to be in a band in the '60s called the In-Betweens,
and he's really helped me appreciate so many kinds of music.
I'm a good singer even though my voice isn't trained and
I'm also a natural dancer. I learn moves really quickly, so I help with the choreography as well! The others would probably
describe me as funny or funky... but yeah, I probably do tell the best jokes in the group!
The instruments I can
playhm Well, Im the only one in the band that doesnt play an instrument. But I'm a master of the tambourine.
But I'm actually learning the bass at the moment - I can write songs on it and play along to stuff, but I don't think I'm
ready to play live yet.
One of my best personal
moments was when I threw my mums 50th birthday in Spain, witch was excellent as I dont usually make birthdays.
My
best a1 memory was offcouse winning the Brit Award. But we kind of suspected it, because people had been actind weird towards
us all day.
But
going
six times platinum in Asia was wicked, that's something you normally associate with Michael Jackson or Mariah Carey.
But
my most imaginable a1 moment would be seeing our album at Number One in the American Billboard charts! Though I don't think
we're going to make such a big thing about breaking America like a lot of people have.
Favourtie cerlebrity Ive met
has got to be Prince Charles. We met him at the Party In The Park show, and he was really nice.
But the cerlebrity I would most
like to meet, would be Outkast. Ive seen them twice in concert this year and I think they are really, really cool.
The one thing I feel Im missing
out on being famous is seeing my family. I really miss them because we are really close. But Ive actually seen them a lot
recently, so thats been great!
Yeah, I do believe I have a soulmate.
And I think my soulmate would have to be my sister Shareen, because even though we're not twins we say things at the same
time and we think the same things. But I'm sure there's a girlie out there for me
Do I believe in love?! What a
stupid question! Yeah, of course I do. My mum and dad have been together for 32 years and they're so in love it's not even
funny, it's disgusting!
I you would be so lucky to catch
me on a Saturday night off, youd probably catch me playing computer games and stuff like that, but Im also a great fan of
reading, and I like snuggling up in the sofa with a good book.
On a Sunday morning youd probably
catch me going to the pub for lunch.
My top three albums is well,
Ive got more than three albums, but I'll say Purple Rain, by Prince, Rainbow Bridge by Jimi Hendrix, and The Temptations Anthology
album.
A song that makes me wanna get
down is a song called "Gasoline" by Outkast.
And a song that gets me in the mood is Let me think
oh yeah "Untitled (How Does It Feel?)" from D'Angelo's Voodoo album.
But a song I always sing in the shower is "Pack It
Up" by Freddy King.
My motto is: "Never kiss a cow's bottom with your tongue!" Ben actually
told me that, and I'm taking it to the grave!
