RINAT GABAY AND THE STAR OF “PHANTOM OF THE OPERA” PERFORM A DUET |
One of the most famous actor/singers from the Broadway stage, Davis Gaines,
will come to Israel at the beginning of January to help sales of the CD of
the musical, Masada, to be released around January 1st. The musical, written by the Israeli composer, Shuki Levy, it is hoped, will have it’s world premiere on Masada in the summer of 1998 as a part of the celebration of Israel’s 50th Independence Day Anniversary. Gaines is no stranger to this kind of recognition, having performed the role of Phantom in “Phantom of the Opera” more than 2000 times. In the CD of Masada, he plays Eleazar Ben-Yair , the Jewish Zealot's leader . The first single from the musical will be aired on the radio today. Gaines is scheduled to appear on Dan Shilon's talk show on January 6. He will be accompanied by a full orchestra and chorus as he sings on of the solos from the CD. The duet,“Somewhere in the Night” is expected to be performed with Isareli singer, Rinat Gabay . A representative from the company who will produce Masada in Israel said, "Davis is a unique name on Broadway. He did for ‘Phantom of the Opera’ what Topol did for ‘Fiddler on the Roof.’ As ‘Somewhere in the Night’ is a duet, we decided to look for an Israeli singer to perform it with him on Dan Shilon's show. It is true that Rinat Gabay is the favorite candidate, but we still need final approval from Shuki Levy who will be arriving next week.”
