One of the largest counties in the world is made primarly by water and ecompasses an area so huge and time consuming to travel, so diverse in culture, religion, scenary and even climate that when you hear someone saying that he spent last holiday in Indonesia it sounds like a joke. Indonesia is to me one of the richest, inspiring places on earth; after more then ten trips to the country everytime I think I'm going there for the last time I soon find one more reason to go back.
Overall might sound sensible to plan a trip between June and October as this is the dry season, however I would consider carefully the heat and the dast - if you are a photographer for istance. The winds and the visibility if you're a diver can be a concern - dive the north in on eseason and the south in the other. If you want to see the funerals in Sulawesi go before September, if you want the best dive conditions in the Gili go between April and May before the water gets too warm and the visibility drops. Keep in mind that the Ambon/Moluka isl. area has a climate on its own and it's the opposite as in the rest of the country.
