POSITION:

AUDIO-VISUAL TECHNICIAN
IN CHARGE OF STUDENT MEDIA WORKSHOP
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the Campus Librarian, the Student Media Workshop Technician is responsible for the efficient organization and operation of the Student Media Workshop, and for performing other duties as may be
assigned.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE TO:

Organize workshop seminars to develop student skills in the conceptual and technical processes involved in Audio-Visual production.

Instruct students and staff on the use of Audio-Visual equipment in the Media Resource Centre.

Supervise the use of the Workshop and Darkroom facilities and maintain a scheduling system
for efficient operation.

Ensure that the Workshop and Darkroom facilities and equipment are in good running order.

Supervise Workshop assistants.

Ensure that adequate supplies of software are on hand for use, and maintain accurate records of its allocation.

Make recommendations to the Campus Librarian regarding the purchase of equipment for the Workshop and Darkroom.

Encourage interest within the student body in audio-visual production.

Consult with faculty and student on the use and integration of audio-visual media in course work.

Produce instructional media in consultation with faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a Diploma with appropriate specialization, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of the techniques of production in various audio-visual media, including darkroom procedures.

Ability to meet the public with courtesy and tact.

Ability to make technical repairs to equipment.

Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, other staff members and students.
