"Fourth Degree Tear"

3.5 out of 5 Meerkats

We saw this female-led band out of Las Vegas open for AAF on our Roadtrip to LA. I was struck by the power of her (Liz’s) voice and how "put together" the band sounded.

However, like many bands, their CD failed to produce the same effect. Although it may have not been as strong in comparison to GAM’s live performance, it was still very good. There are two types of bands. One kind puts on concerts to promote their CD’s, the other puts out the CD’s to promote their live shows. GAM is among the latter category.

Liz’s voice and singings style is reminiscent of other female vocalists such as Gwen Stefani. However it is as good or better than any other female-led rock band in the mainstream, and the band carries her well, lending her a solid hard-rock sound. The songs on the CD range from an angry disposition to a mellower feel, and highlights include "pulse," "star warz," and "hypocrite." Staying away from imitating other bands too much, "Tear" comes off as refreshing and creative. Anyone looking for a female-led band with a fairly hard sound would be well advised to pick this one up…and watch for local concert dates.
