DIAMOND VISION

The Mets Diamond Vision video display screen debuted in 1982,  The Mets were one of the first teams to adopt the score board after it made its first appearance in Dodger Stadium in 1981. It is located in left-center field. it is 35 feet, 8 inches wide by 26 feet, 3 inches wide.

It was manufactured by the Whiteway Sign Company of Chicago, IL and is operated by the Mets Diamond Vision staff. Vito Vitiello, Sue Lucchi and Chris Granozio supervise the staff of 12 daily workers.

            Yankees played home games in 1974 and 1975.

            NY Jets played home games from 1964 to 1984.

            NY Giants used Shea in 1975 while Giants Stadium was being built and 

                 Yankee Stadium was being renovated.

            Shea's main scoreboard is 186' high and 75' long- the largest scoreboard 

                 in the majors.  

            A shot of fans doing the Wave could be seen in "3 Men and a Baby".

            The original Odd Couple TV series filmed a scene where the Mets turn

SHEA stadium ground rules

If a ball rolls under any part of the stands and stays out of sight on a throw by the pitcher, while he is on the rubber, the runner is awarded- ONE BASE; on a throw by an infielder- TWO BASES.

A ball that hits the side of the facing dugout is considered in the dugout.

If a ball goes into the dugout on a throw by the pitcher, while he is on the rubber, the runner is awarded ONE BASE; on a throw from the field- TWO BASES.

If a fair ball bounces over the fence, the runner is awarded- TWO BASES.

If a fair ball bounces over a temporary fence in foul territory in left or right field, the runner is awarded TWO BASES.
