Basic Aftercare for your new piercing
Eyebrows, ears, navels, nipples, and noses
1) Wash and rinse area once a day using a gentle soap such as Ivory or unscented Dove soap, or better yet Satin or
Provon which you can purchase at the shop.
2) Soak the piercing once a day in a Sea Salt solution. Mix 1/4 tsp. Sea Salt with 8 oz. warm, distilled water and soak
the piercing in the solution for approx. 5 to 10 minutes. If it's not possible to submerse the piercing in the water just
soak a gauze pad or cotton ball and then hold it against the piercing. Rinse or wipe the piercing with distilled water when
finished to remove any salt residue.
3) Do not use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, neosporin, bacitracin, or any other types of ointments. Each of these irritate
the piercing one way or another and slow down the healing process.
4) Healing time varies greatly from piercing to piercing and also from person to person.
5) Discharge of clear fluid (lymph) is normal. It may look yellow when dry. Signs of infection would include: swelling,
pain, excessive redness, puss (yellow or greenish color) and a feeling of heat in the surrounding area.
5) If you feel your piercing is infected leave the jewelry in and contact your doctor. If it is infected and you
remove the jewelry, the infection has no where to drain.
6) You must leave jewelry in the piercing for at least 6 months, 1 year is better. If you need to take your jewelry out
for an extended length of time you can keep the hole open using an acrylic retainer in the piercing until you can put the
jewelry back in.
7) Always wash your hands before touching or cleaning your piercing.
Tongue, Lip, or Labret
1) Eat a soft diet and no spicy foods for several days. Avoid alcohol and smoking.
2) Rinse your mouth (30 seconds) several times a day with warm salt water, including after eating, drinking and smoking
to keep the piercing clean. Use an antiseptic mouthwash, such as Biotene (which does not contain alcohol) Continue
to rinse daily for 3 weeks.
3) Swelling occurs for most people after a tongue piercing and may last several days. Sucking on ice chips may help reduce
the swelling, you may also take ibuprofen for pain and swelling.
4)It is important to brush your teeth 3 times daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush to cut down on the amount of bacteria
and food particles in your mouth during the initial healing period
5) The longer barbell must be worn to allow room for swelling. Come back in 2-4 weeks for a recheck of the piercing and
to have a shorter barbell inserted. There will be no additional charge for the shorter jewelry if you have your coupon.
6) Tighten the ball daily so it doesn't loosen up.
