Urge an End to Iraqi Sanctions.
As the Clinton era draws to an end enlightened citizens have a last chance
to request humane moves from the President. The U.S.- supported sanctions
against the people of Iraq have killed more than 1.5 million people and
continue to inflict much suffering for nearly all Iraqis, especially the
children. The Mid-MO FOR implores you, please let President Clinton know
you think it is time to stop this shameful, genocidal policy. Ask him to
direct U.S. repre-sentatives to the UN and its Security Council to press for
an end to these and other non-military sanctions U.S.-led and imposed on
dozens of nations. You can reach the White House comment line by calling
(202) 456-1111.
Grant Executive Clemency to Leonard Peltier
We also urge you to press President Clinton to grant executive clemency to
Leonard Peltier, long-time leader of the American Indian Movement (AIM).
Peltier has been imprisoned for more than a quarter of a century for
allegedly murdering two FBI agents, Jack Coler and Ron-ald Williams, on the
Pine Ridge Indian Reserva-tion. Since the trial, it’s been learned the
prose-cutor’s lead eyewitness didn’t see the shooting (she insists
authorities threatened to take away her children if she hadn’t cooperated)
and that the ballistic reports failed to make a positive match between the
gun used to kill the agents and Peltier’s gun. Prosecutors several years
ago, also acknowledged in federal court, they would probably never discover
who really killed the agents. Peltier is viewed internationally as a U.S.
political prisoner.
Ask the president to commute the life sentences of Peltier and release him.
You may also sign on-line petitions urging clemency by logging on at

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Please also urge the president to permanently set aside the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge for protection against devel-opment-- plus other progressive
environmental and human-rights issues of import to you. Do these things as
Clinton attempts to shore-up his legacy. Call the White House comment line
at 202-456-1111.
