Anni Sonnenblume was born on November 9,1923. Anni was called in 1938 following the death of Rachel O'Connor. She lived in Nuremberg,Germany and lived with her mother, and her brother Karl, her father was away fighting the war . Her last name is the german word for "sunflower" She was a member of the Hitler Youth Party by the age of 14. She had a wheelchair bound watcher. On her 15th birthday, she witnessed the Nazis terrorizing and destroying jews and their property; this night would become known as Kristallnacht or the night of broken glass. She realized that evil comes in many forms, including human. She found this out when she witnessed the evil that the Nazis represented. Anni managed to save a jewish family, the Greens, whom she was friends with from being hauled off to labor camps. She died on August 1, 1939 at age 16. |
