Kishi Minomoto was born in the year 965.  She lived in Sagami Province, Japan on the Kanto Plain.  She hailed from a warrior clan and lived with her mother, father, older brother Hagashi, younger brother Hiroi, and a house chamberlain named Sankumo.  She was betrothed to Matsuo.  As a child, she was consecrated at the shrine of Hachiman, a war god.  She was an expert swordsmen at 9 and an excellent horse rider by 15.  She wanted to pose as a man to participate in the Dragon Tournament in the summer of 980.  One night a man named Bennin arrived at her home and informed her she has been called as Lady-In-Waiting at the Imperial Palace in Heian Kyo.  On the way there, Bennin informed Kishi that he was her watcher and that she was the new slayer, because the previous had died.  She was briefly informed of the creatures that haunted the Imperial Palace before being sent to the palace to serve the Great Lady Ankimon-In.  She became known as Lady Shobu, which means a keeper from evil.  She made her weapons of hairsticks and a fan.  She crafted a bow out of a whale's tusk.  One night, Bennin revealed that he was truly Migoto, Bennin's vampiric brother and that he was gonna sacrifice her to the Dragon Spirit, which he had done to her predecessor.  But the dragon spared her and she slayed Migoto.  The Great Lady watched in the shadows then revealed that she was the watcher of Kishi's predecessor.  She petitioned with the Council to become Kishi's watcher.  It is unknown when she died.
