Dark of the Moon by Yvonne Navarro
In the year 1250, a 21 yr. old Native American girl called Dark of the Moon is suddenly informed that she must slay vampires. Not knowing what a slayer is, she is confused about her duty and has almost no time to learn. It seems that as soon as she's called, everyone in her village is turned into a vampire. She slays all night and day and the next night after she's called, she meets her father, Medicine Father. She learn's that he's been turned and he starts telling her that she failed in her duty and snaps her neck, killing her.
