Raven Drakomyr
First Born, Last Laugh
So sweet the sound of Silence…
So cold the embrace of Night…
So warm the heat of flesh.
Raven stared down the tiny infant wailing in her arms and wondered at the gift of Life. Out in the battlefield, where the only things that mattered were skill and luck, life was such a precious thing. One blow will spill the blood of your enemy - but take care! Should you miss, Death awaits with his chilling kiss.
After all the trouble to bring that life into this world, Raven thought giving an inward shake of disgust. The ordeal which to give life, so thoughtlessly outbalanced by the ease of the taking… Her hands moved under a will of their own and efficiently removed the cord, then bathed the blood from the babe. Engulfed by the feathered bed, her twin laid in fatigue. It had been hard for her delicate frame, yet the pride shown in violet eyes as they followed Raven’s movements.
“Oh, Ariel…! He’s so precious. Did he really come from li'le ol' me?” Tanya stared down overwhelmed with awe as Raven carefully placed the bundle in the crook of her arms. Sweat dripped from ebony locks, both the Taskmaster and the Amyrlin, as a sigh they shared.
The firstborn, as Lady Luck will have it, was a boy, and never a more beloved child could have been made. Already, Raven could sense the potential power ommited from his lusty cries. A slender finger stroked a tiny hand, and she chuckled softly when he caught it tightly.
No longer crying, eyes opened to reveal a stormy blue. Raven could very well feel herself drowning in the depts of wisdom and strength of the infant. A fragile connection was made then and there in that endless moment caught in time. A feeling so overwhelming, she would later wonder if it had been real... Finally, Raven disengaged her finger from his grasp and pulled away.
“Thank the Light his appearance doesn’t match his father’s,” Raven breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief. They both exchanged a wicked glance before looking at the door where tentative calls were being made. After all that agonizing pain, Tanya still couldn’t bring herself to answer him. The M’Hael had made several efforts to come inside the chamber, but he was no match for Raven when it came to such matters.
And a thick wall of Fire and Earth with an underlying trap should that obtuse man think of slicing her weave certainly didn't hurt.
Abruptly, Tatiana frowned. “Ariel, shouldn’t my tummy be shrinking now?”
Raven, by instinct, dropped a gentle hand atop of the belly – and then closed her eyes in absolute weariness. “Ah…sis?”
She didn’t have to explain anything for another contraction hit her twin just then. "Ariel! I'm in no mood for more pain!" Her wails were louder than the now laughing babe.
