All right, time for a celebrity photo! This
is me with Martin McGuinness, Minister of Education for the Northern Irish
Assembly. My observer group was just leaving for a tour of the Nationalist
area when Mr. McGuinness came to Drumcree Center for a press conference.
A friend who was accompanying Mr. McGuinness pulled me aside for this photo--nice
to have friends in high places!!!
"If you
don't meet Gerry Adams," a friend asked before I left for Ireland, "who's
somebody else you'd like to meet that maybe I haven't heard of?"
Well, the first name that came to mind was Breandan MacCionnatih (prounounced
"McKenna"), spokesperson for the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition.
It turns out he has an office right at the community center where the observers
met every day! That's the equivalent of your city council rep.
having an office at the YMCA and being available to talk to you any time.

You sit on this big rubber banana-shaped raft, and hang on for dear life
while a speed boat pulls you through the water! An exhilirating experience!
