Désar, started playing the piano at age 12 and at age 16 was rehearsing with a local New York opera company that performed acts such as "Phantom Of The Opera", "Les Miserables", and "Chorus Line". At age 18 he was involved with 3 separate bands and released his own album every year. What started as a childhood fear of anything considered "haunting" (ghosts, haunted houses, werewolves , vampires, death, graveyards) turned into an obsession when he got older. Not old enough to fully understand the entire 80's "gothic" movement he has fully immersed himself into the new late 90's gothic revival. Not wanting to limit himself in one music style he tries to approach his music in different angles using classical influences and mixing it with cultural styles of music such as celtic, renaissance, jazz, german, italian, and african.

His debut album Land of the Blind was released in 1998 and his followup was 2 e.p.'s released on mp3.com called Flight Across the Moors (1999) and Free Will (2000).

In 2001, Desar contributed 3 songs to Related Textures, an edit of Free Will, a remix of No One Knows Anything and a collaboration will Cobalt Blue released under the name Black December.
