He was among the 39 men from Battery B, 29th Field Artillery, that died when
their LCT struck a mine and sank during the landing. A total of 60
men were on the craft, and most of the casualties were never recovered.
In all, the 29th Field Artillery had 50 men killed in action during World War II.
In retrospect, the 4th Division, as a whole, suffered 197 casualties on D-Day,
including the 60 from the LCT sinking. History records this a very low casualty
rate when compared to the other beach landings.
Every casualty is missed by their family, friends, and comrades!
