Killed In Action, June 6, 1944


Luther Lloyd Waugh was born on Wednesday, November 6, 1918. A native of Carlisle, Kentucky, he was a 1937 graduate of Carlisle High School. He was 25 years old at the time of his death.

Luther was the M-7 driver in the #2 gun section of B Battery, 29th Field Artillery. He was one of the 39 members of B Battery killed on D-day, June 6, 1944. The B Battery mission was to provide support fire for the 8th Infantry Regiment assault troops on Utah Beach, when LCT 548 hit a floating mine, exploded, and sank. Many of these casualties were never recovered.

Although his first name was Luther, he was called Lloyd by his family and friends, and, his name is permanently enshrined on the wall of the Garden of the Missing in the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach.
