i was thinking of mother teresa, john of the cross and saint teresa

also zen/chan, zen used to be celibate centuries ago

i do think theres strong differentials between male and female celibacy

but its a heightened state of being that has strong utility for cfs especially for men

a path of practicality that used to be commonly walked

but all the ethos and theory of celibacy has pretty much gone i think with the advent of easy contraception

people can only ridicule mother teresa when they should be in awe
