PFO implant & studies.

December 3rd 2005.

I consulted a cardiologist in Hobart the week before last,
Echocardiogram and transesophageal have revealed I've got Patent Foreman Ovale with Arterial septal aneurysm,
Been doing a LOT of researching before I went and since I got home, the combo of both can lead to stroke altho 1 without either of the other doesn't seem to from all the research I've read,,br> It's been getting worse over the last yr but not picked up till I had a nasty little stroke about 6 weeks ago,
When supplementing with magnesium and other vitamins/minerals no longer cut it symptoms got worse, GP's here on the north west coast of Tamania are not that on the ball and I had to really go looking for my own cadrdiologist as they didn't seem to want to listen despite my heart symptoms,
A local Cardiologist even refused to see me, Decided I am going to be too difficult to deal with because I take an active interest and didn't say yes to an MRI scan.

Reluctantly had a catscan which showed thinned areas in the brain, The cardiologist says the thinned areas are a legacy of previous very minor strokes,
The PFO is permanatly open now and larger than before due to age which is why its become worse,
This has caused a backflow of blood to go in the wrong direction taking clots and cell debris through to the brain.

I've done a Lot of reading/researching about this on the net and it's given me direction/helped sort out type of occulder is the best, Plus any aftereffects to look out for due to leaching of materials used to make the implant,
(There is quite a differance in after effect between the various types)
Have to go to the mainland asap as Tasmania doesn't do this procedure yet and open heart is the solution here.
The Cardiologist says I'll feel 15 yrs younger afterwards and thats ok by me... ;o) Lol
