Andy Lau NYC Press Conference

In his first North American film festival appearance, Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau kicked off the 23rd Annual Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) in grand fashion. The multi-platinum and award-winning Heavenly King headlined the AAIFF as the guest of honor. At noon, escorted by black clad security guards, Lau gave an exclusive press conference to a standing room only mob of reporters, TV cameras, and photographers. Speaking for about 30 minutes from everything ranging from his first Hollywood project to his latest film, Andy kept everyone entertained and insured a good time was had by all.

Later that evening, the line outside the Florence Gould Hall in midtown Manhattan started to wrap around the dividers all in anticipation for the special screening of Johnnie To's slick action thriller "Running Out of Time," where Andy gave an exceptional performance that garnered him the Hong Kong Best Actor Award. As further example of Andy's box office clout, just last week he starred alongside singer/actress Sammi Cheng in another film directed by Johnnie To titled "Needing You". In the film's second week of release, "Needing You" impressively unseated box office monster "Mission Impossible 2" as the number one Hong Kong movie.

Meanwhile droves of camera-packing fans filed into the auditorium and anxiously awaited for the guest of honor to take the stage. Lau entered the jam-packed, cavernous auditorium flanked by an intimidating entourage. He was greeted by over 400 audience goers, a blinding barrage of camera flashes, and the ear-piercing shrieks of screaming fans. Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang and Filipina author Jessica Hagedorn opened the exclusive screening with a comical “Lucy and Desi” skit. The duo then introduced Lau as the superstar featured in nearly 100 full-length feature films and award-winning musician.

The ever-dapper Lau took center stage in a well-fitted black suit and graciously thanked audience members and events organizers for making his welcome and stay even more special. Lau then proceeded to sit in the front row to watch "Running Out of Time" with his fans. At the end, he was then ushered to an adjoining room for an exclusive fan autographing session.

Approximately 250 fans stayed for the exclusive Andy Lau signing session. Afterwards, there was such a wide variety of Andy memorabilia ranging from photographs, CDs, and cocktail napkins. Fans with pen in shaky hand, anxiously awaited their turn as Andy magically squeezed in every fan for a special signing. By almost 11pm, he was whisked away into a special limosine waiting outside where he would fly to Thailand tomorrow - truly one of the hardest working men in show business.

Continue on with ASTYLE's front row seats to the Press Conference and see why he is one of the hardest working men in show business, plus answers to ALL the questions. Some were similar to the first interview, some have changed. Now enough of this and just read on!
