Red, white, and blue.
What do those colors really mean?
Democracy,
Freedom,
Equality?
To the white men it may mean victory.
But as a Native American
I see it as a symbol of the hardships brought on to my people.
Each war that was fought
killed many,
slowly decreasing our race.
But those warriors who fought,
those who escaped prevailed.
if they had not returned to Dineta,
I would not have existed today.
So as the American flag
is put up each day,
I remember what my ancestors went through.
I feel their pain,
cry their tears.
Now that I exist,
it is my duty
to strive on for my people
So what does the American flag really stand for?
