Interview for the movie:
Exclusive interview with Eddie Mills! He's starring opposite
Melissa Joan Hart in SABRINA GOES TO ROME, he's guest starred on
ALLY McBEAL, and starred in his own ABC series, PUSH. But it
didn't just happen overnight for North Carolina native Eddie
Mills. We sat down with Eddie to get the scoop on his start in
the biz, as well as a bit of star-powered advice about what it
takes to make dreams come true!
Q. Would you share your "Hollywood story" with us?
A. I packed everything up in an '83 Nissan Sentra station wagon
and took off by myself--drove out to Los Angeles. Took me five
days. I arrived in LA and I didn't know anybody.
I was kind of scared 'cause I didn't know anything about Los
Angeles or where I was going. So I went to find a place to work
because I needed to get a job waiting tables or doing something.
I went to this restaurant called Stanley's and I got a job
working as a host.
I was working there about two or three days and I was talking to
one of the other hosts about how to get started and the bartender
goes: "Excuse me, I couldn't help but overhear your
conversation. But I hear that you're trying to figure out how to
get started in this business. My wife's a manager. I'd love to
give you a number, you should give her a call."
I walked away for a second and when I came back he goes
"Here, talk to her." And he had called her up right
there on the phone.
Q. It must have been your charisma.
A. I don't know. So I started talking to her and she says,
"Come to my office, I'd love to meet you." Well, her
office was in her home with the family and I really liked that
immediately coming from, you know, a family kind of a town. Sure
enough, she wound up signing me at the time and it was just meant
to be.
Everything was just kind of kismet from that point on. Everything
just started to fall into place. I was very fortunate.
Q. Now you were how old when you came out to LA?
A. Let's see, I'm 27 now . . . I was 22 . . . 21.
Q. What advice would you give to other young hopefuls who have
the same sort of dreams that you did?
A. First of all, you have to set your goals and reach for them.
Anything is possible if you set your mind to it. If that means
that somebody is pursuing an acting career and they really want
it bad enough, and they sit in front of their mirror and practice
their acceptance speech for some award, chances are, whatever it
is, if you believe it and you say it enough, it'll happen. It's
all about where you put your focus. You can make things happen as
long as you put the focus in the right place.
Q. So have you been practicing your acceptance speeches in front
of the mirror?
A. I'm not tellin'.
Q. Looking back, would you have done anything differently?
A. No. No, I don't think so. I wouldn't have done anything
differently because I knew what I wanted. And I wasn't going to
let anybody hinder or get in the way of what I wanted. Meaning
that I wasn't going to be persuaded by somebody else's opinions
or somebody else's thoughts. I mean, the thoughts that I have are
my own, and I cherish those. You gotta do things on your own. You
have to be independent first and foremost, because that's when
you're going to succeed. And don't be afraid to fall on your
face. When you fall on your face you'd better pick yourself up
and keep on going, because, if you stay on the ground, it's going
to be harder and harder to pick yourself up. I was a waiter for
three years, almost to the day. And I wouldn't trade it for
anything.

Arrivederci Roma

Rome will always remain in my mind as one of the most romantic
cities in the world. From the moment we stepped off the plane, I
knew we were in for a treat and a serious opportunity for
adventure. (Check out the pictures!)
The first thing you notice is the age of the buildings and
monuments: ancient. To think that Julius Caesar once walked the
same streets . . . You really get a feel for how young America
actually is.
The next thing you notice is how beautiful Italians are. The
buildings echo Romanticism to the people of Rome. Romantic
couples on romantic walks and having romantic talks. It truly is
poetry in motion, which is the reason ABC decided to venture to
Rome with SABRINA. (And, luckily enough, I was invited to go
along!)
We set forth on a five week shoot that began in Rome before
traveling outside the city for a few weeks. As soon as filming
began, so did the surprises: excessive heat, language barriers
and the occasional cabby who would take advantage of our
ignorance--to name a few. Although, when the day was through, the
perfect remedy was the fine food! Dinnertime was something we all
looked forward to and for good reason. We had some of the best
pastas, pizza, and cheeses I have ever tasted. Every night was a
sampling of something new and delicious. After eating, we would
roll ourselves out of the restaurants and into a gelateria and
gorge ourselves on gelato (gelato is amazing specialty ice cream)
then head to the nearest espresso bar.
When we were not filming SABRINA GOES TO ROME, we used our free
time to travel to other parts of Italy such as Venice and
Florence. The artwork and architecture all over Italy was
absolutely breathtaking. Everywhere you turn is another brilliant
masterpiece from such greats as Bernini, Michelangelo, and
Donatello. I have included a few pictures I took They include

Tara Cherendoff (Gwen) and, of course, yours truly, Eddie Mills!
