What if we were able to cure all human diseases including cancer, how healthy would we be? Unfortunately, we would still suffer from the greatest human affliction of all--spiritual malaise, disaffection and moral apathy.
What we need today, more than any tonic, medicine or treatment, is a spiritual infusion; an awakening to those influences from on high that will enrich our collective spirits and encourage us to draw nearer to our Father in Heaven. His Holy Spirit will enable us to encounter the path of righteousness that leads to all truth, joy, and eternal life, which is the greatest gift of all.
The key to this process is faith in the Son of God, who is Jesus Christ. "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17). There is no other name under heaven or on earth by which salvation and a fullness of joy may be attained.
In order to develop a personal relationship with our Savior, we must prayerfully read the scriptures and strive to inculcate into our daily lives His teachings. By inviting us to "follow me" (Matthew 4:19), the Savior encouraged us to make a mighty change in our behavioral pattern which represents a genuine spiritual commitment to become like him. "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 5:20).
He has assured us, that if we earnestly attempt to observe his teachings, we will be blessed in our various endeavors. "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). We should anxiously be involved in good causes that benefit our fellow man. In so doing, we will find in ourselves hidden treasures of wisdom and spiritual strength as we follow in His footsteps.
The Savior declared that there are two great commandments, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Matthew 22:37-39). If we will do these things, we will discover untold joy and happiness both in this life and in the life to come.
I pray that the light of Christ, which inspires all good works, may illuminate your way, banish all fear and darkness and bless your families.
I bear witness to the everlasting love and divinity of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.
Respectfully,
George Nelson

no man cometh to the Father,
but by me." John 14:6
