Co Armagh
North Section
The Mall is the most attractive urban feature in the town of Armagh. A long stretch of grass with flower beds and numerous trees bordered by elegant terraces. In early times the Mall was common grazing land, as its former name, The Commons, implies, it was also used for horse racing, bull baiting and cock fighting, these gambling activities were stopped by Archbishop Robinson 1773 and the land converted to public walks.
East Section
Charlemont Place is to the east of the Mall as seen in the photo. It is one of the finest georgian terraces, designed by Frances Johnston in 1833 as the entrance to a school which now houses a political and social history museum.
