BELFAST
River Lagan Flyover
Co Antrim- Co Down
Looking downstream, north east, towards the Docks and Irish Sea.
Took 3 years to build and was opened in 1995
This is the only motorway that crosses the River Lagan in the greater belfast area, it will take you to and from the city center side and the east side of town.
This motorway stops a short distance after crossing the river to the east but will put you on the right roads for such places as Holywood, Bangor, Donaghadee, Newtownards, Ards Peninsula and Newcastle all of which are in Co Down. The flyover is at the end of the M2 motorway which arrives at Belfast from the North-West and is also very close to the West Link motorway. The bridge carries around 60,000 vehicles a day as well as a railway line which joins two of Belfasts main stations.
Overall the scheme cost £87 million
