Donaghadee, Co Down
The Old Motte
The Norman Motte near the shore was probably raised by William Copland. a retainer of John de Courcy. It is crowned by a stone building (1818) used as a gunpowder store during the building of the harbour. From the top there is a fine view of Donaghadee, the Copland islands and the coast of Galloway across the Irish Sea.
