EMIGRANTS STATUE

Curran Park

This statue as you can see here features a family of three that represent the role played by a typical 18th century Ulster family on their way to board a ship that would take them to the far off land in America. The statue is located at Curran Park in the town. The first ship to sail from larne harbour was "Friend's Goodwill" and sailed from Larne in May 19l7. The statue was unveiled in 1992.

The statue has been created with the boy standing in bare feet holding his shoes. In those days children quite often spent their days shoeless, maybe for this big occasion many where treated to a new pair and this boy decided to keep them in good condition for arriving in the new world.
