"Where The Mountains of Mourne Sweep Down To The Sea"
A one way street leading you south towards the harbour and the little coastal village of Annalong. This street actually ends at the Shimna River bridge where it becomes Central Promenade, further down the street it becomes South Promenade.
A northern view along Main Street. You will find the bus station, Sleve Donard Hotel, Beach/carpark at the far end of this street. This is also Newcastles main shopping area
Famous, "Mauds Ice Cream" right beside the Shimna river, occupies the bottom floor of the circular, handsome building on the right. The "Bon-Bon"(red sign on right) has been in Newcastle as long as I can remember, its a favourite stop for the children with its wide variety of seaside toys, sweets, and ice cream etc.

This carpark is the closest to the base of the Mournes should you want to park-up and trek the mountain side of just take a leisurely stroll up the banks of the beautiful little Glen River.
A green area at Central Promenade is used by many for sunbathing and picnics it overlooking the sea is only a short distance on the left from where this photo was taken. The Harbour is about 1/4 mile away
