The Happening Experience

Instrument of Renewal

The Happening experience is a powerful instrument of renewal in the Church. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the life of Jesus Christ while trying to instill a desire to understand and connect with the Church. During the weekend the teachings of Christ are discussed in both large and small group settings. There are several services that allow time for reflection and prayer. There’s also lots of music, games, fun and great food.

The Rector for Happening is usually a Senior in High School. They are supported by a staff that includes teenagers and adults serving as “gophers”, cooks, coordinators and advisors. Two priests are also there as Spiritual Directors. Happeners and staff are fed and housed at the host parish.

Who Can Attend?

Everyone is accepted. There are groups for teenagers currently in 10 th, 11 th and 12 th Grade. There is also a group for adults (18 and up). Happening is open to ALL denominations / ALL ages. Bring a friend or family member.

Format

Happeners should arrive at 7:00 p.m. SHARP on Friday.  We cannot begin until everyone is there. Eat supper before you arrive. After introductions, rules, and a few games, the weekend theme develops with the Rectors address. The changing nature of our world and society is compared with the permanent nature of Spiritual Reality. You will meet some wonderful friends who are looking for answers to the same questions you face in everyday life.

Closing

The Happening ends with a closing Eucharist at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Parents, family, friends, former Happeners and parishioners are encouraged to attend. It is an incredible service of celebration and a chance for Happeners to share some of their experiences about the weekend.
