"We just moved to Australia," Simon begins to explain. "All of my kids were born here in Los Angeles. And they loved it and I loved it but I want them to get a sense of something new, not just what I saw as a kid growing up but something educational. The littlest one (his youngest son), loved T-Ball but now the three of them, (his kids), are loving cricket. Who would have ever guessed? Kids adapt so easily to new environments and I think giving them the opportunity to see two different worlds, and the United States and Australia really are two different worlds, will make them all the better. They can certainly choose where they want to plant their roots when they are grown up, but until then, Australia is home."

Simon said he’s very proud of being a part of “Something New.” “Well, it just opened up for me, growing up in Australia, so I’m not that knowledgeable about African American culture. The only influences I’d had was through music. I watched ‘Roots’ growing up as a kid. There’s African American characters on a few TV shows and stuff, but that was it. So I had no preconceived ideas either way about it.

The Guardian was a blessing and at the same time I found myself working more than nine to five. For an extended period I was contracted to work from five 'til nine every day. You get paid really well but I'm not that obsessed with money so I wondered whether I had made a deal with the devil. Creatively for the first year I had an absolute ball. But then to continue playing the same character and to try to elevate the scripts is very difficult when all the elements around you are saying “this is the hamburger we are making, you have to keep making the same hamburger...enjoy it”. Then it becomes really difficult. But it was a good time and I learned a lot. There is a lot to be said for being on a set and having to deal with scripts and different directors and the immediacy of it. We were shooting seven or eight pages a day. Every eight days we shot an hour of television. So consider that a two hour movie in 16 days There is nothing better than that experience.

"The Devil Wears Prada" will be released in theaters on Friday, June 30, 2006.

Land of the Dead director George A. Romero told the Moviehole.net Web site that he's developing a sequel to this year's living-dead movie.

Romero added that Land of the Dead star Simon Baker, an Australian, is advocating that the next sequel in the venerable franchise be shot down under. "Simon Baker says that's where we should shoot it," Romero told the site. "But, yeah, there's some rumbling about doing a sequel."

But don't hold your breath, Romero added. "Most of my zombie movies have been 10 years apart," he said. "In this case, it was 20. I've never had to do one right behind the other. If that happens I think I will probably just continue the same story: Follow the truck, in which case those characters [including Baker] would be back."

Fashion police broke the news last week that Simon Baker has nabbed the lead male role in The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren Weisenberger's tell-all book of life under Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Baker took time out from shooting the film in New York to attend last week's Inside Film Awards. He plays a magazine writer who helps a colleague manage the feline fash-pack. How did he prepare for the role? "I reluctantly read the book on a surfing holiday I just had in Mexico," he says. "I hid the cover." As for handling the red carpet - an activity he has said he dislikes - Baker reckons the quality of the experience depends on "my sugar levels [and] what I've had to eat beforehand". No word on what that was, but we hope he isn't susceptible to carb coma: award guests dined on sangers, popcorn and mini chocolate bars - all served in white cardboard takeaway boxes.

Simon Baker, this week packed up his life in LA and is bringing wife Rebecca Rigg and their three kids home after 10 years in Hollywood.

Better known as legal hotshot Nick Fallin to Guardian fans, Baker has had success in the film world with roles in Land of the Dead and The Ring 2 since Guardian was given the chop.

But it appears he'll be coming home to face the employment section of the local papers, with his Australian agent this week saying he'll be looking for work.

Aussie actor Simon Baker is returning home after a decade in Hollywood, but not because he's quitting his movie career.

Like stars such as Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, the actor felt it was time to bring his family — actress wife Rebecca Rigg and their three children, Stella, Claude and Harry — back to Sydney so they can have a base in both countries while he works internationally.

"My plan was always to eventually have two bases, one in Sydney and one in Los Angeles, so we're just happy that we've finally been able to make that happen," Simon told TV WEEK on the eve of his move.

After CBS canceled "The Guardian" and ABC chose not to go forward earlier this year with his hybrid crime drama-character story "Three Rivers," Pittsburgh native David Hollander has sold another script to CBS.

The network won't decide whether or not to film a pilot of "Storyville" until January, and Hollander admitted he was somewhat surprised by its interest.

This film skewers Vogue’s high priestess Anna Wintour. The educated guess therefore is, there are friends of Wintour’s in powerful places. Either they were not happy about the story content, or Anna was not happy about it. In any case, the movie’s producers may take their library card, and they know what they can do with it.
