Screencaps
The accident that has Lulu fighting for her life teams Nick with the autistic child boy of the other car
s driver.
When his wedding is interrupted by an emergency call, Evan Puskaric hurries to the crash site to find Nick
and the critically injured Lulu. But, as Lulu fights for her life at the hospital, her husband and her mother
cannot agree on the best course of treatment. As Burton turns to Evan s dad to help him sell Clayton
Steel s employees on a pay cut to save the company, Nick sets out to keep Kenny Traeger, the nine-year-old
autistic child whose mother was driving the car that struck him and Lulu, out of a mental hospital.
Hoping
to persuade Kirsten s boyfriend, Todd Dougherty, to seek custody of her autistic son, Nick notes, because
the town of Mt. Aire knew the intersection where the accident took place was dangerous, there could be grounds
for a lawsuit. And when Kirsten dies, Todd persuades Nick to represent the boy. As Brian and Caroline
continue to square off over Lulu s treatment, Barbara worries that Evan will no longer want to get married.
But even after he s told about her failed pregnancy, he agrees to go ahead with a wedding. Meanwhile, when the worker s rejection
of Clayton Steel s offer will force the plant to close and Burton asks that his donation to the Children
s Center to be returned, Evan pressures him to wait while he looks for another donor.
After Nick and
Alvin get Todd appointed as Kenny s foster parent, the investigation reveals that the accident was caused by
Kirsten trying to care for her son while she was driving. So, as the boy s lawsuit against the town suddenly evaporates,
Todd is forced to reconsider his commitment to raise him, especially after Nick discovers that he struck Kirsten
just prior to her getting in the car. Finally, as Red asks Burton not to bail out his son this time, Barbara
and Nick are ready to give up on him when Evan finally arrives at the courthouse to get married. And after surgery
to remove part of her skull, Nick tells a comatose Lulu that she doesn t have to go on living.
