Burton presses charges after his teenaged nephew attempts to rape Shannon.
While dining at the home of Liz Hetherington, Burton is disturbed when, in an apparent attempt to show
off for Shannon, his fifteen-year-old nephew, Jeremy, nearly hangs himself to death. Realizing what might happen
if Jeremy actually attempted suicide, Burton encourages Liz to be very careful about what she tells the
doctors at the hospital. Asking for a chance to make it up to everyone, Jeremy invites Burton, Nick,
and Shannon to dinner. But when they are back at the Hetherington home, Burton calls the police after
he's forced to break up Jeremy's attempt to rape Shannon. Meanwhile, after Alvin walks in on them having
sex in an LSP conference room, Lulu decides that the time has come to formally date Nick. And as Burton
sets out to make up for Shanno's years of substandard education, Jake buys a ramshackle mountain cabin and then
goes looking for someone to share it with.
Once Burton gets the police involved, Nick steps in to serve
as Jeremy's lawyer. While Jeremy accuses his mom and Burton of using the rape accusation as a way to
control him, Liz worries about what a conviction will do to her son's future. Yet, when she insists that he pressure
Shannon to recant her story, Burton refuses. Meanwhile, when it appears Jake is after something more
than just a casual weekend of fishing and fun, Fallin & Fallin's receptionist, Gretchen, bails out of the trip.
And facing a private school's difficult entrance exams, Shannon turns to Nick for help.
Convinced that
Burton is serious about her changing schools, Shannon takes off. So, tracking her to the apartment of a stripper
who used to work with her mom, Burton insists that she come back home. After bailing out on his evening with Lulu,
Nick is summoned to Liz's house to stop Jeremy from committing suicide. And once it becomes clear that the boy
suffers from schizophrenia, Liz reveals that there's a family history of mental illness. Finally,
as Jeremy is transferred to a treatment facility for observation, Lulu decides that she and Nick need
to make a statement about their relationship by having their LSP colleagues over for dinner at her house. And when he catches
Shannon preparing to run away again, Burton convinces her to stay.
