Our Great heores who should be commemorated for their bravery and foolishness or who simply lived too long

Anti-Japanese groups

MPAJA: Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army

MPAJA was a group hiding in Malayan jungles to escape from the Japanese. They grew crops so that they would not starve to death, and carried out attacks on Japanese officials, and tried to arouse anti-japanese feeling among people by distributing newspaper to them.

Force 136

This group is a secret British organisation (but now it's not secret anymore, is it?) which aimed to recapture Malaya and Singapore from the Japanese. Local men were also recruited and trained in India. They were then sent secretly to Malaya by submarine to help the MPAJA.

Lim Boon Seng-san

Lim Bo Seng, our local hero, was one of the leaders in Force 136. (BTW, there's a bus in SBS now also labelled 136...) Unfortuanately, he was captured in 1944, and died there after his "visit" within three months. No matter how he was tortured (One of the favorite torture methods of that time is to make the man drink down buckets of water until their stomachs were as big as fishes', then the soldiers would step on the stomach, forcing the water out. Another is to dunk the man's face into the buckets, causing just a bit more than shortness of breaths. So you can imagine).

POWs

A POW, Stanley Warren, drew the Changi Murals on the walls of a chapel which was a makeshift hospital. When he recovered, he painted murals to comfort his fellow POWs. Fellow POWs helped him to smuggle paints and bruishes. Five of these precious relics were born, to serve as a reminder that hope can still exist even in times of darkness (which is why this page is called "Years of Darkness"!)

Gurkhas And The Sikhs

Even though the terrifying Japanese wanted to make them join the INAs against the British, they refused. I feel that they should be praised for their courage.

The Chinese who fought in the defence of Bt Timah Hill

Bravery. Courage = Death. *bow* enough said.

My Grandfather

Okay, so maybe he's unheard of. I haven't the slightest memory of him, but I heard my dad tell me that he jumped off the lorry during the Japanese occupation. And what makes him a hero? Well, if not for him, you turleys wouldn't get this page done, so there! ^_~
